I had a Carvin DCM and thought it sounded pretty good. Leave the power amp sims on. Cab sims off. Have you run your PODx3 through the Carvin into the cab? I use instrument cable to go between Axe and power amp without problems.

Have you started with a blank preset and an amp? I find the Fryette D60 to be pretty easy to dial in (and use it a lot). Don't try to add effects or cabs or anything until you get a useful sound. I don't do the PEQ trick, so can't help you there. If it is fizzier than a POD at the same gain levels, there are probably some operator error issues.

EDIT: I played with the parametric eq some more and got it to sound pretty good so I guess I'll just work from there thanks for all the advice guys I really appreciate it.

Yea highs were really harsh until i did the blocking eq thing.

Yeah I leave the cab sims off and power amp sims on, and yes the pod is still fizzy but not as bad with the same gain levels and same exact set up. Once I block 140 and 6000 with the Parametric EQ it sounded alot better than my pod. Maybe those frequencies are bad on my cab I'm going to try it through a monitor sunday and go from there.

I'm just curious  but did you ever swop out the instrument cable that you have going from the output of the power amp to the cab??? Instrument cables don't make very good speaker cables  .

Yeah I bought 2 speaker cables to run it in stereo from the cab to the power amp. I still use that instrument cable but now its going from the axe fx to the power amp
