To me that is pretty identical album tone and I'm pretty critical of VH clips...

Steve

Thanks man! I bet it would be better if I was better at VH playing... I can get in the neighborhood, but I'll be the first to admit I don't have the same attack/playing style he does. Someone who did would probably be able to get it up another notch. Close enough for me though.

Pete very nice van halen 1984 sound.Any van halen 1(first album)sounds in the Kemper.

Thanks!

Yeah, I am in the process of doing at least two profiles from each classic VH album (1984 and below). They all have things in common tonally but are different - VH I is pretty fizzy, VH II is my favorite, 1984 sounds to me like his pickup was screwing up (the Panama tone sounds to me a LOT like a P90 or a humbucker that is messed up, your mileage may vary.)

Hoping to get em all up on my website as a 'VH bundle' after this weekend. One thing that does bug me about the Kemper right now is getting a good MXR Flanger sound out of it is proving to be pretty tough. One of the things I am trying to do is include the effects sounds too, so you can get a Phase 90, the tons of reverb, etc and not just the core amp sound.

Pete

I'm not even a VH kinda guy but that just flat out fucking rocked period! Thanks for posting that!

Sounds great

Pete, do you have any advice for those looking to use the Kemper live?

I'm wondering if the guitar cab route a waste of time. Maybe the pa/ atomic clr etc...should be the "go to" solution.

I've been thinking maybe profiling loaded heads into hotplates, as a direct , post power, profile is the way to go for using a guitar cab and having the amp in the room feel.

Sounds pretty accurate to my ears.

Nice job on the lead!!

I went back and forth listening to this clip and the original. They are stunningly alike!

HEY Pete, am I reading this right ?

"doing at least two profiles from each classic VH album"

so your making profiles directly from VH CD's and not a amp ??

You are reading it wrong. He's using amps. There is no way to make a profile from a CD....

Very nice tone & playing dude!

Everyone here was also raving about the VH 'I'm The One' clip that I posted that Adam from Fractal played the other day.

Just goes to show how much the Axe2 & KPA are freaking out the cork sniffers.....over the next few years things will continue to get very interesting indeed....
Yup. That was great too. I bet he spent less time dialing in the Kemper though!

:poke:

Nope. I have an amp and cab combination that does early VH tone pretty good, and then I use different mics to get closer to a specific tone, then once I get it almost there to match a recorded tone I do an EQ match and profile with the amp, mic placement and EQ curve that so it's 'baked' into the profile. It's a lot harder this way than just taking a distorted guitar and slamming a EQ curve on it but I think it gets much better results.

Just to see how well it would work, the guitar I played this clip with was NOT the one I did the original profile. :D So it should work pretty well if you have a guitar in the general neighborhood (bolt on strat, humbucker in bridge, maple board doesn't hurt either.)

As far as effects like reverb/delay/phaser/etc, the profiling doesn't capture that so I really have to match it with my ears. That clip has NO post processing, all the tones were one guitar, kemper, live with no seasoning.

holy fucken shit that was good. spot on tone, and impeccable chops.

Doesn't matter if it was a Crate Stealth 50 (which I owned back in the day :) ), that was some great playing!

Thanks for sharing

That was OUTSTANDING
Look forward to checking out the profiles!

That was really well done, Pete. When I had my Kemper, your profiles were and as far as I consider...still the best out there. You Ractifier profile was killer!

Keep up the great work!

:)
