Knuckledraggers, tell me about the Friedman JEL-20

I had that one and was great and why I really think I'd dig the JEL-20 even more. Has more of that 80s thing i like.

I had the JEL 20 and still have the red 1x12 cabs.
I hated the JEL 20. Disclaimer- I only played Strats thru it when I had it.
I found the Bass excessive. The Treble was ear fatiguing, IMO. I blamed it on the EL 84's.
The main issue was the excessive brightness. You had no way of turning off the bright cap (s) on the Gain channel. This has been addressed in the JEL 50, which has bright switches for BOTH channels.
I even blamed it on the 1x12's, but they kick ass with my Soldano X88ir.

Even with the disclaimer, it's nuts that it was too bright like that with a Strat. I've hear a few people mention the bright thing.

I've had one for a while now and love it. It's like the perfect Marshall IMO. I'm the same age as you and love 80s hard rock and metal. It does that in spades. I also think it is the coolest looking amp. It sounds so good with the Friedman 1x12 that you already have (65s?).

It takes pedals in front and in the loop very well on both channels. It's got some great cleans too.

Perfect for JEL tones, not good w/ a Strat!! At least Dave addressed the issue on the 50.

I'm probably going to end up getting a Synergy but I think it will be the same idea, a smaller amp with that same type of tone.

I've also got the 20IR and the Bogner modules are also some of the best Marshall tones I've heard. I'm not sure which is my favorite.. the JEL20 or the 20IR with Bogner modules but they are both my favorite Marshall tones.

Yeah it's crazy, I went down a Synergy rabbit hole and kept thinking that a Synergy amp would allow me to swap sounds, upgrade to a bigger amp if needed, have great IR outs, etc.

The JEL-50 to me sounds awesome on vids I’ve seen. But the 20? Meh. If probably roll a Synergy 20 head and Killer Kali or SLO II instead of the JEL-20. Just from clips. I’d like to try the synergy stuff in the room.

Doing the old school Marshall thing between the Bogner and the JEL, I'd say the JEL wins in sounding bigger and more dynamic. But using the DRECT and SLO modules, I'm surprised at how hard the bottom hits with this tiny setup. They both out rock my Ceriatone 2204 and Marshall 1960B 4x12 at bedroom levels.

I've put my modelers into the loop of the SYN20IR and it is the best experience I've had with them... so it makes a great power amp too... And the reactance and power structure features and master volume work here too.

I don't have the Friedman but I do want to try one. I'd say between those and getting great Hot Rodded Marshall tones I'd go for the Ecstasy module. The Uber may be more versatile for heavy tones but I don't play those so I find both channels on the Ecstasy to be great. There is just something about the Ecstasy that is special to me. The blue channel on the Uber is close to the Ecstasy tone though.

I think I'm going to get the SLO II to start and then will move into other arenas, lol. That one seems to have a great tone that is really representative of what the amp can do.
