I've been very interested in KSR amps for a very long time, what would you guys say an orthos sounds closest to overall? I've heard some people say it's very SLO or dual recto flavored.

i've been talking with kyle about one of those orthos mk2 heads as well. the clips sound great, but it is hard to get a true feel for the amp through clips. Id be curious as to what everyone says about it as well.

It’s been said repeatedly (even by Kyle himself) that the Orthos is basically a 100w Ares with a dedicated clean channel.

It has also been said ALOT that the amps are a nod to the Recto/SLO amps but the KSR has this prominence in certain mid freq’s that give it a distinct voice from other similar amps.

It’s hard to tell what kind of sound you’ll get in your own room based off YouTube clips.

For example, Gsxrbusa’s Ares clips sold me on mine a year ago but when I actually got it and ran it through my own guitar and cab it sounded very little like his clips did.

It's the same with my Splawn Nitro. I love that amp but it sounds nothing like any of the clips I heard online. I ordered my Orthos(originally Ares) based on recommendations from several groups/forums with using youtube vids as a general idea. You really cant get the personality or true tone from an amp without hands on experience. Even a Kemper profile may sound like an amp but doesnt really give the true representation of that amp. Too bad most brick and mortar stores only carry the same couple amps. Any store I go to in town I will see the same couple blackstar, orange, and boss katana amps.

Yea I feel ya there. No stores around me carry anything off the beaten path in the upscale range. It’s just a wall of overpriced fenders and Gibson’s, any Schecter you want around 500 bucks, and now the Mitchell and Michael Kelly stuff has spread like a virus.

Sam ash is actually a Friedman dealer and I asked the guitar dept. manager (whom I’ve known for almost 4 years now) why they never put a Friedman in the showroom And he said “ not gonna happen..too expensive the store manager won’t approve it”

.....and I continue to walk out of the guitar dept past a rack filled with 4000-5000 dollar Gibson’s.

We have one store locally that only carries "boutique" gear but its stuff like Suhr, Two-Rock, and few other brands but everything is more fender/vox type tones than marshall/soldano. All the guitars are geared towards people who play lo gain. In the late 80's and 90's we had a large variety of stores that had different brands. Like one would have Marshall , Charvel, Jackson, Gibson then another store would have Peavey, Mesa, Ibanez. I cant tell the difference between Sam Ash and Guitar Center. Maybe these stores would do better if they had cooler gear. Hell they may have one amp that I want to try but its typically in the used section...

For you guys who have ordered KSR amps what is the typical build time? I know its less than 3 months but was wondering what you guys' experience was? I know its weird but I dont want to keep bothering Kyle especially since I just put my order for an Ares in a few weeks ago and I'm not in any rush just excited.

Congrats bro! I love my KSR and Kyle. Super cool dude. He did get a ton of orders for the Ceres so that might slow down things a bit. I just got an Orthos 2 and it's a beast just like everything he builds.

Anyone here with experience comparing the Juno and Gemini?

I have both Chris. The Juno is a touch brighter overall, the mids are more upper mid oriented to my ears. The Gemini is darker and more mean, not that the Juno doesn't get mean it most certainly does get mean. The Juno is like the ultimate modern MArshall. The Gemini is just more modern tone. These amps are not leaps and bounds different I could be happy with either.

I ended up getting an Orthos since he had one ready to go. He said it will be put in the headshell next week. I've been watching your videos several times a week getting me psyched for it. Now I'm sorting out my funds for a KSR 2x12 with Redbacks after watching Jerevil's video.

Right on! you are going to love the Orthos. It's so freakin mean. Thanks so much for checking out my vids bro, means a lot. You will also love the 2X12 with Redbacks. I have a KSR loaded with them. His cabs are built like tanks!
