LOVED his stuff with SYL.
But his solo stuff is absolutely fantastic.

I got pretty good computer speakers. Not super duper great like a stereo.
But man..... it was recorded EXCELLENT compared to most vids I watch.
Gonna have to pick up that on cd

Btw... If you want other very cinematic pieces like Deadhead... Stormbender and Seveth Wave are probably even more so. GIANT sounding.

And now add Failure to that list. Effing magnificent!!!

I bought Ocean Machine when it came out and couldn’t delete it fast enough. Horrible. lol

Well Dave... we can't all have great taste in music. There's got to be those who'd prefer to listen to sub-par stuff too. Or there would be a lot of empty shows. But thanks for participating anyways.

BLASPHEMY!!!! one of the all-time GREAT albums. it'd be the first one I chose to jam on if I could only choose one. ;)

He is insane in a good way & super creative. Funny & talented & twisted.
I've worked with them twice and seen them 3 times live... they're simply amazing live & great to work with.

I think it’s the video that does it for me.
Not familiar with the music. But to watch him interact with the crowd. Face expressions etc.
really a great performer. Least to me :D

Damn lol. That's literally one of my all-time favorite albums!!

Only got to see Dev live twice - once with SYL and once with the DTB. Both times were fucking incredible.

I'm such a nerd that I even have the SYL symbol tattooed on my back

Agreed. He's an awesome performer. He doesn't run around the stage ala Bruce Dickinson (whom I also love), but he really lays it all out there regardless. I've watched the RAH performance several times, and the PlovDiv one all weekend. That symphony and choir makes it so awesome. Failure is currently one of my faves of that performance. The 28 minute behind the scenes video is pretty cool.

@ 2:47 song still went no where. Got board

Same here, although I gave it a bit more time than you. That's the great thing about music though....nobody is right, and to each their own. It's good to see people getting off on guitar-based rock though.

Love listening to anything from DTP! Always a treat!

Listening to the live version of Deadhead that I posted in the OP, for the umpteenth time over the past week... right now as I type this. Can't get enough. Most bands I would be temporarily sick of by now. This stuff has really connected with me. That's what's so awesome about music. It's like finding a new love or a new drug. You start to get jaded and cynical after a while and think that everything's been done and there is nothing left that's fresh for you to discover... and then you stumble on something that really moves you and makes you excited for music and life again. I can tell you that without music that moves me like this, my life wouldn't be a fraction as sweet tasting. The last time I remember being this stoked/obsessed was probably in 1988, when Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime" came out. I drove around town, blasting it in the car stereo and wearing that album-out for an entire summer.
