I had a PRS Singlecut for a while. I loved how it played but didn't really care for its sound.

I have to admit there is something to this. I've played PRS Singlecuts next to Les Pauls and the Gibson almost always sounded better to me. And I wanted the PRS to sound better, just not the case usually. Same thing with a few others like Anderson Bulldog, Edwards, etc.

It's the pickups.

Even though they have great pickups now, PRS Singlecuts sold for a long time with meh pickups. Their #6 was standard in SC Trems, and the #7 came in many of the hardtail models. I didn't much care for the SC245 pickup either.

I've owned over 100 PRS Singlecuts, and always upgraded the pickups on the older models, turning them into a firebreather. Untouchable, imo. The newer models (plus the Tremonti) with great pickups are flat out amazing sounding guitars right out of the case.

I had a Stripped 58 with 57/08 pickups. I thought it sounded good but when I compared it to my friends LP Traditional the PRS didn't sound better. It just sounded smaller in comparison even though it played better for me.

PRS Single Cuts have a little better access. The Stripped 58's and SC58's are not weight relieved either. They also have a better neck joint contour and a tummy cut.
This.

Great upper fret access, feel, and workmanship on these guitars. You can even choose 24.5" scale or 25" scale, depending on the model.
I love my SC245. Best of both worlds IMHO. I also have a neck thru custom LP from Mammoth Custom Guitars which is tits.
