My Custom shop '54 Oxblood, and my 71 ES-175 are the only guitars I own with stock pups in them. Never once felt the desire to change them out.

I wasn't a fan of the BB3 in my Std Traditional Pro and swapped it out for a Duncan Pearly Gates which I'm pretty happy with. I'll probably switch it out in the future...still too tinny, but I love the '57 in the neck...wish I could find a '57+ I could coil tap for the bridge!

I have tried many pickups also and really dig the gibson 500t in the bridge as it has the power to push an amp without pedals if needed and still sounds a bit traditional, cleans up well with the volume knob also. I remember liking the 498t in my old standard also, want to try a dirty fingers out also. 57's can be cool but I have played some bad ones that were just to weak but the ones in my sg were killer. I have an old custom that I am gonna try a new pickup as the orig is just too noisy, I have a sd custom custom and a mcp blisterbucker that I pickup up on here used that i wanna try.

After playing literally thousands of Gibson's, I like their '57 Classic best. I never did like the 500T. It's just too gritty to my ears. Really diggin' MCP's lately. I installed a Detroiter set in my LP today, and they are great! Not quite as hot as the Afwayu, and not as much lowend, but still very nice!

I'm a big fan of the old Duncan Distortion in an LP too... tons of growl and thickness.

I've had a Suhr Aldrich in my Les Paul for about two years, maybe longer. I just think it is an outstanding pickup. It has a classic tone that gets heavy without being harsh.

Back in the 90's, the Duncan Distortion was my go-to pickup. I had that pickup in two different Gibson SGs and it just killed. I don't know what it is exactly about that pickup that I love but it just has that certain something.

i remember speaking with TH prior to purchasing my 450 pickup, and mentioning i wanted to *upgrade* from a classic 57+ i had in the gtr at the time. i didn't know he had anything to do with the 57...
he asked what i thought of the 57+, and i told him it was a bit harsh/scratchy and generally annoying compared to the 450/455 i'd played recently.

got quiet for a moment, then he said he designed the 57/+

but he was a good sport and sold me the 450 and i was stoked!

I gotta say of all the 'indie winders' out there (nice term ), Tim from BKP has got it going on. Especially considering he's been in deep with Seth Lover and all the original approaches to the original PAF style pup. To each their own...

Maybe I'm crazy but I think some of that LP "Mojo" gets lost when you go dicking around with non-Gibson pups.

Now what fun is that?
