He's a buddy. Real sweet dog but you have to knock and I have to let you in first otherwise he's pretty pissed off. After that he's going to want you to pet him and when you do he's not gonna leave you alone about it. I've never seen a pitbull more red than Fred. But he's not very driven. I tried to take him on some jogs. He goes a block and then refuses to take another step unless it's to go back to the house, lol. Has no problem chasing deer though. He yawns when he needs to take a leak. He's a funny dude. 75lbs of pure titty baby.

I have a hard time believing it but I take your word on it. I just can't visualize it. Most of the red noses here are cinammon colored, much lighter than Fred, often approaching a buckskin. I've seen one that was the equivalent. Anyways, he's mostly pretty chill. I got him for $35 from a kid who was definitely keeping him crated most of the day while he was on a job site. Good on him for wanting a better home. He's had it pretty good here.

Why is it hard-to-believe? The red pigment is a component of natural variation in dogs. It may be "rare" in certain breeds but the gene is there; it's just a matter of whether or not and to what extent it's expressed.

He's just so red in person and I've never seen a redder red nose than him so I'm trying to picture exactly what that'd look like. Brown? LOL.

Yeah, IIRC Red's nose wasn't very-red, so I get what you're saying about the "tan" / cinnammon colour.

His coat OTOH, different story.

The big guy passed away on April 20. He loved to lick our grandkids and great grandkids feet...they'd laugh so much when he did that.

Sweetest dog God ever made and super protective of our family. Rest in peace, buddy. We'll all be together again one day.
