So I've never played a Suhr before, I've always wondered wha the necks on the Moderns (24 fret) feel like compared to a Jackson or a Charvel or even an Ibanez Rg prestige. (those are what's in my collection). One of my friends told me a Modern with a Floyd would be my "perfect" guitar.
I like my Gibsons 60s slim taper necks.
I like bigger, thicker necks like on my CS Tele, the custom 50s neck that was on my Slash LP, the 60s Vibe +.20" on my buddy's Anderson Icon.
I struggle with super thin necks, like Ibanez RG, Ormsby I had and other such shredder types. Jackson/Charvel is about as slim as I like.
I struggle with most Ernie Ball necks I've played, including the Albert Lee I owned. I don't gel with Reverend necks at all.
My Suhr Modern has the modern elliptical shape. It doesn't feel too small or thin. It fits in my hand just right. Feels more significant in the hand than the Jackson, Charvels and Ibanez RGs I've had, without ever feeling big or bulky. It's like someone tweaked the neck on your favorite vintage guitar, just enough to make it faster, more comfortable, just a bit slicker. I can play better on it than most guitars.
Honestly, I feel the term "modern" is a somewhat misleading model name. Mine anyway, feels more like a vintage instrument with modern tweaks to slightly hot-rod it, vs something truly more modern like the RG. It's different, but somehow similar to the way my PRS Custom 24 feels both old and new.
