Back in 89 my drummers girlfriend was a DJ in mpls. We all got to meet Mr Big and they were all nice guys, but Paul took the time to answer all of my stupid questions. They played a show at the Cabooze, a small club in mpls to support their first album. Had met a few pros before that but none were as nice and humble as Paul.

I think it's funny how anyone can give a rats ass and complain about PG's tone. Who cares! He is an amazing player! One of the greats for sure.

Back in 88', I think, Paul came to Hawaii to do a seminar. A couple of friends of mine were students of his at MI, one lived in LA and another moved back to HI. Anyways, we hung out with Paul for the couple of days he was there. He was staying in Waikiki so we took him to a tiny local little rock club called the Jazz Cellar...I know :aww: and he sat in with the band on a couple of Priest tunes. This was just as Mr. Big was getting started but before the first album came out. Took him to sample some local eats too. We took him to the airport when he left and when he was checking in he discovered that he had lost his ticket. My friend had to lend him some money to get his ticket changed/replaced...whatever it was, cause he didn't have his card on him. Paul immediately sent him the money once he got back to LA. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, truly loves everything about the guitar and good music, and has ZERO attitude or ego. I had a pic of us all at the airport but I can't seem to find it, if I do, I'll post it up.

Great player and teacher. Thinks outside the box too, very unique and has a great energy whenever he plays. Like he's a shredder technical player but still "gets" music.

when ed y was guthrie's manager and travelled with him and emailed me with news about him recording the first aristocrats CD i told him to tell the guth to really dig in and find fat tone because that is the last frontier GG needs to conquer. the most recent clip i've heard from him and the charvel and the victory amps? clinic he did sounded like he is arriving at toneland finally.

i saw paul at least 7 times back in the racer x days and near the second heat era his tone with the epiphone coronets and the ada/neon ampeg V4s sounded pretty spanking and modded. kinda that ultra grind wolf hoffman from accept had for balls to the wall mixed withna taste of nuno/porno tone.
i had a V4 half stack and used to hit it with a metal zone into a fender combo into a alesis quadraverb GT and ill be darned if it didn't have some of that 80's honk those boys got.

eccentric signal chains were en vogue back then in the early 90's with heroes like lynch, nuno, and ej... :D
