I'm sorry, but I refuse to get old or become obsolete. Now way, Jose.

Listen to Mr. Fanny Pack, he knows what he's talking about.

I realize $2000 is quite a lot of cash, but it floors me how many people are worried about resale of tube amps, or digital equipment and then purchase a 20K+ car only to drive off and already lose a substantial amount of what the car is worth. Everything loses value, everything and everybody gets old and at one point or another becomes obsolete. I think the question regarding the Axe FX is will it allow you to do what you want musically and is it worth $2000 to you to use in a musical quest. Not base it on how much it will be worth in 5 years.

Not to mention that if you buy about any tube amp new, it will be down to 50-75% of its original value in a few years (there are some exceptions of course).

I think the problem comes from people like me who buy their cars used, their amps used, and their guitars used most of the time. I am used to being able to roughly sell my used tube amp for what I bought it for used. Not that this is stopping me from buying an Axe-Fx (other things are at work there).

I would like to think Cliff will have some updates when he launches the next model. I would love to see him handle it like Line 6 did with the Vetta, where you can upgrade the Vetta 1 to Vetta 2 specs. The way Line 6 handled the Spider I-IV transisitions and Flextrone I-III, where once you had an old model your amp dropped to be worth next to nothing due to lack of upgrades, sucked IMO.

I've seen first generation Line 6 amps still going strong - the AX2s or whatever the hell they are called. I'd say the Fractals should last at least that long - well over a decade. Heck, comparing the build/parts quality of a line6 amp vs the fractal is like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes.
