Anyone here using a 15 watt amp in a band setting? I've been practicing on my little crate vc5, with the gain about 3/4 up and the volume cranked it sounds pretty awesome, I think from just pushing the el84 in there. It's not nearly loud enough for a band setting though. I was thinking about getting a Tiny Terror or something similar and a 1x12 cab for a small portable rig that I can just run with the volume on 10 and actually fit in my mustang. Will this be loud enough for a decently loud band? For comparison I'm using my 2204 with the volume on about 2-3 right now. I was thinking the smaller amp might even sound a little sweeter since I'd be pushing the power tubes way harder then I am pushing the marshall. Any suggestions on which amps to look into?

heres the crate a low volume with a sd-1, sounds a lot better opened up:

the other guitarist in the band uses the dual terror (30w) - through a greenback 4x12 - certainly doable depends how clean a tone you need

sounds great with his setup (runs p90s guitar usually), volume around 11 o clock semi cleanish tone - using pedals/boosts (Fulltone OCD and a treble booster) to push into gain/higher gain , small and effective and loud enough to sit in a 5 piece band (2 guitars/bass/drums/singer)

Depending on the amp 15w might be a bit low headroom wise for clean tones and i'd say cabinet will make possibly more of a difference too

i use a blackstar ht-5 at home through a 2x12, absolutely love the gainy tones i get, cleans are ok, super portable to boot

there's loads of lunchbox style amps out there, Vox, Marshall, Egnater, Mesa, Traynor, Orange, Carvin all make them , if you're into real gainy tones i'd keep your eyes out for the 5150iii 50w small form head it's out pretty soon : found a pre-order link here:

I'd say 25 watts or better and you would be good to go in ANY band setting. Amps that come to mind include the Mesa TA-30, Orange Dual Terror (although it doesn't really have a "clean" channel) and the Egnater Rebel 30. I think H&K have a new lunchbox now too (Duo Tone maybe?), but I'm not sure what the wattage is...

Check into blackheart handsome devil and Jet city JCA22H.

I love the concept of these small amps, and whenever I have some spare cash, I'm getting one :)
