There was Pantera but Pantera's sound is so singular and Machine Head's was classic but so new as well. People take all the single harmonic drones and accents for granted as they've been all over for years but this was the first band I heard doing it. That being said I haven't really followed them much past their 2nd album as I didn't like the 3rd one at all and lost interest. I think I got to old for Robb's super melodramatic delivery and lyrics but these guys can still kick out some real tasty rhythms and breakdowns and Dave Maclean is a beast of a drummer. That first album is so, so good.
The one and only time I saw them live was at the old Ballard Firehouse in Seattle. Stuck Mojo opened up I think. Ricjh Ward had one of the best live tones I've ever heard. It was a Soldano modded, JMP.

honestly, sick of the locust song though...first week on liquid metal, they played at the top of every hour.....great song though, just overplayed, ready to hear the rest of the album. the blackening was unreal, i have high expectations for this one.
other songs im currently tired of hearing every fucking hour....symphony x-iconoclast and devildriver blur.
honest to shit, there ARE other songs on the albums....sirius seems to be getting more and more away from the original programming of playing variety...and only playing "the devil's dozen".
the "classic metal never dies" tracks are the same 3-5 songs....something from overkill, that shitty anvil song, and some dumb post punk, pre metal tune.
jose needs to reprogram the programming.
/rant.
cant wait for the new machinehead album either!
