Rabea gives us a taste of the new JCM 800 Modified

I was really surprised when I heard the early demos that the extra clipping was so mild. I think Rabea did the best he could here. This is not a metal machine, or even a thrash machine. It’s a good old timey rock and roll amp, and there’s nothing wrong with that but I don’t see them selling a truckload of these at all. Missed opportunity. Fwiw I think Rabea’s a monster musician, and probably one of the best on YouTube at dialing in great tones, just not in this case.

It's always a convenience thing, I know. BTW I heard some of your videos the other day. You are a fine player bro. Don't be so hard on yourself that you let some street urchin push you into a digital habit.
thanks my friend. If I were doing any kind of real recording for something, it would definitely be using amps and cabs. The cab and speakers are the next most important part of shaping tone after the actual amp itself IMO.

It would be so convenient for just getting ideas down, seems like it would be ideal. Once I get better at playing, I plan to move on to recording. I might be pushing up daisy's by that point though.

when you say recording interface, you mean the physical interface, plus some kind of software that can use IR's right? It's pathetic how little I know considering I work in IT :(
Yep. Physical interface that the peripherals like speakers and the load box will connect to. It also does the digital conversion. Software is free and easy.

Don’t wait to “get better”. Using the PC will make you better quicker. It’s a choice people then make how far they go with it. Many go to far and lose the natural magic. But if you use it like I do, it’s every tool you need.

I think the dude's alright. Take his opinions with the usual grains and all that. His playing got noticeably better over the years which was nice to see one of these guys develop. I'd have a beer and some chips with him.

Sounds good, would never ever come close to buying one anywhere near that price though.

Like my ceiling for those tones/features would probably be like $2k new.

It sounds really good (Rabea can make most amps sound good)...But I honestly think his demo here sounds better to my ears (skip to 15:55)...And a lot cheaper. The 800 modified just seems to be missing some attack, aggression and Marshall balls based on the videos I've seen.

I been meaning to ask you how have things been going for you in Hollywood since the fire?

Thanks for asking brother. My home is actually in the Palisades...Town got hit really hard. My place is still being remediated for smoke, ash, soot...But overall in good shape compared to most so I'm staying grateful. Took the opportunity to sell off a ton of gear rather than place it all in storage, which was actually kind of liberating. Down to two half-stacks and ten guitars. Spending a little more time playing rather than jumping from amp to amp and always twisting knobs. Appreciate you checking in on the situation.

That's good news Angel. Palisades....that's right. I just knew you were close to the strip and it'd been a minute so I thought I'd ask. What amps/cabs did you keep? Sounds like you are headed towards that utilitarian lifestyle, it's a good way to be. Just the tools not the toys. Glad to hear all is well. Pick on brother!

I held onto the Koch Supernova running through the Mesa Oversized 4x12 (covers the modern boutique sounds) and I picked up a Marshall JVM410H running into the Marshall 1960A 4x12 (covers the more traditional stuff). Two Heads...9 channels between them, plenty of sounds for now.

For the price of this amp and whatever the hell Marshall was thinking of making a modded 800, I'm buying a GROUND ZERO Hellion all day every day.

I like Cap't Lee, Danish Pete & Rabea. They are very likeable and all contribute in their own way.
If i ever go to the UK im going to Marshall Milton Keynes and Andertons.
Mr. Rabea can make a Les Paul talk thats for sure.
I really liked his demo of the SLO-100 2.0
Effective w/o being cheezy.
As for this Marshall too little too late. They're behind the 8 ball by 40 yrs.
Ive talked to Santiago Alverez he said he wouldve made this Marshall like a modded out Jose badass style.
If Marshall UK wants to get with 2025 as a contender id be hiring back Mr. Alverez.
Word.

surprised to see Rabea hate. I dig the guy, and really enjoy his clean demos. That drone he has going, along with some tasty chord progressions, I really like. Gives me a body buzz.
Agreed
He’s got some really killer ambient heavy stuff out

It's fro-envy. We all know this.
not gonna lie, he does a dual SLO vid on the top of some flat in England, where the roof must open up. The fro was blowing in the breeze, and between the tones and fros, it was pretty epic.

Turns out money can buy you happiness.
I always thought what I would really like is a vanilla modded marshall.

At this point, it is kind of a running joke that everyone is better at modding marshalls than marshall
Didn't seem like there was much interest after NAMM. The Friedman Jose seemed to overshadow them pretty hard. :dunno:
