There are a lot of people that look at gear collecting as a "club". They all want to have the newest and best stuff so they can take pictures of it, run to message boards and gain what they percieve to be more acceptance and respect from the club they see themselves part of. A lot of guys get off on having the most rare or expensive stuff for these reasons. Different strokes for different folks I guess but usually, these people are "bedroom warriors". These are the guys who never play shows, usually aren't in bands, and switch rigs nonstop....constantly trying to find "their ideal tone" that sadly, they will never find.
