Pretty cool, a bit too much pissing around and making it hard for Bonnet to sing (if you call it that lol - shout?) but the outro solo is blistering and super precise. I don't agree with the caption that he plays better than Michael ever could as Schenker is so unique that nobody does it him like him. He's also very melodic in a different way than Malmsteen.

he was so fiery and clean back then! killer strat/marshall tones and good memories but man how wonderful would it have been to have replaced GB with Dio in that scenario!? the whole alcatrazz era was tolerating broadway ethel's awkward james dean/west side story/miami vice persona long enough to get to the next groundbreaking yngwie solo.

For realz? Waianae side? Heard the Country got slapped pretty good with a big Northwest, choke rescues at Waimea shore break ???? Hoooo deez poor R/T guys going need subtitles ?

That whole thing was a trainwreck.

Which is a shame, because that song is super cool. Graham Bonnet would just go for it, full power.

Malmsteen had great vocalists working with him for the most part. Until he got into the mid 90s.

Alcatrazz hired Yngwie. After that album, Yngwie went on his own path.

Say what you will about Bonnet, but I always thought the melodies and vocal performances on the records were great. Unique voice for sure and it’s pretty well documented he struggled live.
Malmsteen is a great player. Comparing him and Schenker is rediculous. 2 different players with completely different approaches.

Gotta hand it to YJM tho.. He figured it out as far as how to make it happen playing wise.
He bypased the old ways of heavy strings and power amp distortion and went super light strings, low action, scalloped necks and nuclear distortion pedals to carry the notes without having to pick or fret hard.
The draw back however is the heavy rhythm tones kinda suck and suffer from going warbly sharp out of tune.. But the single notes sound great..

I thought this was great. Too much f^cking around playing over the vocals. I saw Graham w/ Rainbow. Powerful voice, almost over the top at times.
His tone back then was awesome.

The ingredients to his early tone is a culmination of low output pickups, into an overdrive pedal, into a cranked Marshall. I wouldn't exactly call that "nuclear distortion pedals". In fact, quite the opposite. Just a strat, plugged into a boosted Marshall, is pretty straight forward. He likes his string action high, and the scalloped fretboard requires a consistent even and light touch. It is that gear and his vibrato technique that carries the notes. Again, the amps are cranked maxed out. I don't think anyone else can play with that combination of equipment, including the light strings,, and sound even close as good. He is a guitar god for a reason.

For a better example of his early heavy rhythm tone, check out his Marching Out album. Songs Disciples of Hell or I am a Viking.

He was using Di Marzio FS-1s which are higher output than stock Fender singles (but not like SDS-1s) AFAIK. Also, the Roland analog echo on his board supplied a few more dbs of gain.
