I enjoyed the first video. Not a YJM fan at all. Saw him live 2 times. (Only cause he was opening). When I saw him he was being ‘too much’
Now who was that hot butch chick in the red pants singing???? That’s what I’m talking brother!!

That basement jam of MSG jamming is to me the epic of playing thats my style!!
When they played ‘another piece of meat’ that killed ?
Totality into the basement jam. That’s my world. Haha

Hell yeah, and that "basement jam" is with the original Scorpions rhythm section Herman Rarebell & Francis Buchholz

That vid is damn near Schenker School, closeups of him playing a bunch of classic stuff.

Yes sir!!! He seems totally down to earth from other clips I watched. He did the basement jam proper. Haha
Like you could’ve Been hanging having a beer then. That’s what I enjoyed.

While I can appreciate the technical prowess of Yngwie... it's impressive at times, there's no denying that but when he starts laying down discordant disjointed runs and solos for the sake of showing technicality prowess can become a moot point.

Just because it's fast and technically impressive doesn't always make pleasing music.

For most of the time it becomes a redundant slog that's not pleasing to my sense of fluidity, melody and song structure. I can understand why someone likes Yngwie's approach it's just a personal preference but to me Schenker's approach to the fretboard always seems fresh within each song even as a young player with UFO he was/is very unique... Yngwie recycles alot.

Man re watched the MSG basement vid. When they did ‘coast to coast’ amazing!
Think on World Wide alive it was 3 guitars!
He nailed it by himself. Not sure the story. But why didn’t he stay in the Scorps?

UFO was opening for the Scorps....they needed a sub and Schenker filled in and stayed with UFO

Anybody "doing Schenker" aint Schenker...unless of course its Schenker

That basement vid is awesome. Schenker is so tasty. Great rythm section there too.

it's just abundantly clear that Yngwie is doing nothing to enhance the song, and is simply injecting as much flashy, creatively bankrupt wankery as possible.

That's all Yngwie ever does on any song ever

Don't he and his brother hate each other? Seems like I remember reading about some beef before
Yes, Michael says Rudolf stole melodies and songs from him all through their lives.

Once sober, Michael began to wake-up. Happens to everyone who quits, though some prefer not to remember so vividly. Taking a moral inventory on yourself can be tough.

yjm hit me in the feels at the perfect phase of my gtr development.
MS, Uli, and Gary Moore were kinda the across the pond strike force to recon with and John Sykes was the rising gunslinger in Tygers of Pan Tang until YJM exploded in 83!
Our local rock station 98 Rock in honolulu had a metal show and they debuted Steeler “Hot on your Heels” one night in 1983 and it was game over. switchboard lit up!
i raced down to the local record shop next day and they had one copy of steeler.

soon after that i happened to catch a live interview with GB in hawaii promoting his upcoming album/band alcatrazz and they did a world premiere of the “Island in the sun” single that night. he talked a lot about recruiting this new hot gtr player named Yngwie that was gaining a lot of attention. he said they planned to do a concert in hawaii. dream come true for a 17 yr old rock gtr lover!!!

here’s a shot from the show at the University of Hawaii ballroom in 1984, taken by my cousin:

my friend andrew and i were front row and he was the one throwing horns, who’s shadow you see on Yngie’s gtr. he later pulled the cable out of Yngwie’s gtr and almost got kicked in the nose by YJM!?

my classmate Mark Kaleiwahea’s band Sacred Rite opened the gig and killed. Mark was my real life local gtr hero and used to give lessons with Marty Friedman at the local gtr store Hot Licks. Stay thirsty my friends.

I never got into the Scorpions until they got a really good guitar player...like Mathias Jabs.

Wait...did I just write that out loud?

Truth is...that's how I perceived it at the time. I was young and at that point in time if you weren't fast I wasn't interested. I know Uli could play fast but he didn't do it enough. Now...I can barely listen to much Yngwie anymore and only a bit of the very early solo stuff just because I liked it so much when new. Tastes change I guess.

Mathias was a guitar god to me. Kinda late bloomer. Blackout then after. World wide live I had the thing video taped. Soooooo good.

Poor Mathias Jabs, born with a name that would turn out to be so polarizing in 2021.

MS is a solid player but nothing too special to me. I'd be surprised if I ever saw his name in any top 50 guitar players of all time list.
