Today, my band mate told me that Marshall discontinued 1960 cabs. Is this true? I cant find them on the marshall website. and If they did discontinue them, Why? All he cabs are on there are the M412 and MC412. was one of those cabs supposed to replace the 1960?

Interesting. The MC speaker cabs are for the cheaper Marshall heads I think. Not sure what else is out there. I know there is a certain speaker cab for the Vintage Modern head as well.

I can't see Marshall dropping the back bone of the line. Maybe they are updating the site with new pics?

I dont know, They just list those two as their main cabs. Thats what I thought, It would be weird to drop the Main cab of their product line
and their M412 cab has eminence speakers in it. I think this is the cab that is replacing the 1960

They are under "Cabinets" just check the specs.
no, they arent under cabinets. they only have 1x12's and 2x12's there.

Ok, I guess I should have looked around better, instead of jumping to conclusions.

I searched the other night, and they came up in the list, but the pics would not load.

Perhaps just a web glitch...

I couldn't see Marshall dropping them.

I can see them dropping them, in England, where Marshall are made, funnily enough, eveyone buys Marshall cabs used (including myself)

Those who want to splash out cash on a new cabinet usually spend the extra cash on a Mesa, Orange etc etc.

If this is the case, maybe Marshall wanted to bring out a higher end cabinet to compete in the new cabs market with the brands I mentioned. Let's be honest, they're good cabinets, but there are much better cabinets for the cash and they're so cheap used that it's not really (imo) worth buying a new one at more than twice the price.

I went through a period of time where I had a B-52, Mesa, Orange, and Marshall cabs in short order. I still have a Marshall. In my mind, nothing can replace them. Just my ears though - others love different cabs, but Marshall is what sounds "right" to me.

I love My marshall cab with My mesa .50 caliber +. It sounds great through it. When I play it through my mesa recto cab,m It just sounds off. But Marshall should put better wire in their cabs for the price for new ones. they are new $800, I'd rather dish out the $200 extra for another mesa cab with better wiring. I can get marshall cabs used $250 any day I want to here in Fl.

Lets face facts, there are plenty of things Marshall should be doing. Have something built to modern specs would be a nice addition to the classic 1960 series.

Interestingly enough, I have both the 1960A/B stack and a MC412A/B Stack. Both are made in UK. The 1960 seem a little sturdier, but I put Vintage 30's in the MC412A and Heritage 30's in the MC412B and they sound as good, if not better, than the 1960's with the stock speakers.

FWIW

Another reason many buy used marshall cabs besides price is that the older pre 2001 years come with the english made celestions and yes , there is a differance. So buy getting a used one, u save money and get better speakers in most cases over new.

I played a gig with last week where you had to use the house cab, and that cab was an MC412B.
I wasn't impressed. Might have been different if I actually had a sound check to eq to compensate a little, but I prefer the standard 1960 cabs - 1960 cabs are slightly bigger too.
(I own a 1960A and 425B)

They had the ModeFour cabs. They were a modern sounding/design cab. Theyre kinda hard to find used now.
