haven't played a 2205 yet....but owned a Jubilee... Nice amp. I just played a DSL in guitar center 2 days ago... and tho I couldn't crank it up... I couldnt stand it... sounded fizzy, cheap, generic. The JVM wasn't much better. I didn't spend much time with either since I didn't like what I was hearing... but glad I tried and officially crossed them off my 'could be' list.

Both the DSL (older English models) and JVM can be made to sound killer with the right EQing. Otherwise, crank the gains past 12:00 and you do get fuzzy mush.

The 2205/10 series uses diodes for the gain channel. Which is why I couldn't bond with my 1x12 2205 combo no matter what I did. and why a 2204 kills it in every way!

My favorite color is red....

lol... the 2210 and the jube are fantastic amps...old technology? better tell the vintage single channel guys so they can sell off all their old technology too...
When I hear guys say "i can hear the diodes" I know immediately that they dont know what in hell they are talking about- mostly a TGP type statement and bro science.

I meant old dodgy channel switching technology - nothing wrong with old tube amp technology (I own a 76 JMP)!

It's all good, of course. Here's my former '87 2205 dry...

Could y'all hush already? I'm already gassing to have Curt Granger build me a 2204 clone and you're just making it worse. :aww:

I have a 2001 1959SLP RI (non-HW). It's been heavily modified with a PPIMV and other goodies, but it has the mojo. I was just playing it for an hour before everyone came home today. Pure heaven. My next buy will be a JMP and then a JCM800.

I had a Voodoo modded 2210 I scored for $700 a couple years ago. That fucker would peel paint off the walls. The 22xx amps are like a really pissed off 2203, lots of grind and bite, but don't do warmer tube tones as well. A DSL is a little more organic sounding by comparison with a lot more available gain, although the gain gets muddy and useless if set too high. Jubilees use diodes as well but in a more saturated way with their mid voicing shifted lower than most other Marshalls. Jubes are a much darker sounding amp, I love them for leads, but not as much for rhythm stuff, they don't have that biting crunch I like from a Marshall.

I bought a new white 2210 in 1988 and played it until around 2002. Clean was lame, but the beef channel was great. Sounded even better with a tube screamer in front. One of the few amps I regret selling.
