Marshall JCM 800 Modified Series

You heard it here first folks.

SD-1 into Triple Recto = sounds exactly like an SD-1, literally nothing else, 100% of the time.

SD-1 into Plexi = literally identical to plugging into the SD-1 into the Triple Recto rig. Zero difference. Just diodes.

Apparently I need to check my bookmarks, I didn't mean to click on TGP.

Battered Marshall Player Checklist v1.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[X] Had to boost it
-----[X] To tighten it/ amp was "farty" or "woofy"
-----[X] Not enough gain
-----[X] Boost device has clipping circuit (symmetrical diode etc.)
[X] Mod required (considering Marshall "modified" series as a mod)
-----[ ] Modder has horrible communication and/or absurd or uncertain wait times
-----[ ] Modder is outright fraudulent/steals amps
-----[X] Another poster claims modder is bad/their guy would do it better
[ ] Excited to have a master volume
-----[ ] Circuit position of MV (e.g. PPIMV) touted
[ ] Had to use attenuator or load device to achieve sound
[ ] Absurd steps taken to add FX without FX loop
-----[ ] Modulation/pitch shift/delay/reverb/other post FX in front of amp
-----[ ] Power station etc.
[ ] Had to add additional amp to rig
-----[ ] To add missing sounds/address lack of channels
-----[ ] To fix bad sounds
-----[ ] As part of FX scheme
[ ] "Clean" sounds come from rolling down guitar volume
-----[ ] Sounds are laughably not clean
-----[ ] Huge stage volume drop
[ ] Amp made in shithole country
[X] Amp uses transformers from shithole country

And now everyone knows where we stand

This isn't about Marshalls. This is about you saying that if you use a boost into ANY amp, then the amp "only sounds like that boost" which is an insane thing to say, especially here.

I mean seriously. what.

No, now everyone knows where you stand.

By yourself, talking to yourself in the mirror...because that's the only person that would agree with you.

It’s hard to beat the drop in legendary mod analog gain stages for stock amps and get more out of them to make them fun - especially for the simplicity. Add a boost pedal and you’ve got a lot of room to work with. However what you can’t change is the type of gain that’s added to the amp - to me they’re way fizzy and thin for my preferences and add all of the gain in the back of the circuit which leaves a lot of weird mid overtones that can’t be dialed out.

There’s nothing wrong with modified Marshall’s if there isn’t anything on the market that does what you need. Spend the extra $2k on a single mod or collect many different high gainers and sell at a loss on the used market and lose a lot more than that in this day in age. Mind you, a lot of famous products that exist today started from people supporting modified Marshall builders they loved first. Modelers or plug in features don’t provide that level of inginuity the market needs and thrives on.

Again, says the guy with 20 rack spaces full of tone coloring bullshit.
Fuck off, troll….

I am ok with his opinions and will even give him a nod if he makes a clip of "high gain" without a boost.

This is a gear forum. I never understand these really loud voices that never post a clip to support their thoughts

You forgot to check off that you have never seen a female vagina🤣

Is Whackman an HRI refugee? The kind that jizzes themselves over Scott Henderson’s Lexicon PCM 42 cathedral reverb cascading into an Eventide “ethereal angels” delay algorithm mixed 100% wet while playing at the no girls allowed Baked Potato jazz fusion LA hotspot. Probably also has posters of Tim Pierce on his bathroom wall.

…only thing you missed was the Mike Landau calendar, on the kitchen counter, by the bowl for the keys.

I have an 800 Modified. After experimenting at length with the mods, I've found my favorite sounds to come from turning them all off and running a Cusack Screamer in front in front of the amp.
I believe it. I tried the Jake E Lee Mods and some other popular ones with my 2203 clone, and it is now all back tostock with one resistor change and that's pretty much it.
