Played one . That was at low volumes. Any 80's sound I wanted was right there.

totally this .... I had one as my main amp and loved it. In the band I was in at the time the other guitarist had an 800 and my sound killed his every time (and it really pissed him off   )

I owned one briefly. Mine was buzzy and fake sounding, and at higher volume, it sounded buzzy and fake with a bit more power tube punch. 5881's didn't do it any good either.

Any DSL50/100 will put the SL-X to shame.
Any JCM800 will put them all to shame!

This!
I had one, 50W with 5881's. Think it was the 2500 model (50 watter). Long ago I traded it for a strat which has since became my #1, one of my best deals ever, so I am very glad its gone.

bullshit.. just finished a/b'ing a dsl 100 and a sl-x 100. the sl-x could do the dsl sound and then went way past it. made my dsl redundant.

I used the jcm900 dual reverb for a while when my Boogie Mark III was getting repaired. The 900 is really not a bad amp, it just needs VOLUME and lots of it. With the master above 12 O'clock it sounds really good, and just how you'd expect a good Marshall to sound. It just doesn't sound all that great at lower volume, which is why some people don't like them??

I owned an SLX for a while. I didn't care for it at the time, because I was new to Marshalls and didn't like the thought of boosting. In short, I was used to preamps (ADA and Triaxis), where there was no need. I didn't like the fact, at the time, that it was a single channel and it only had useable gain up to 50%. It had two gain dials, which also didn't make since to me at the time, but anything over 50% and it would turn to fizzy mush. I later sold it and bought a Cameron Aldrich mod, which was the sound that I always thought Marshalls were and should be and never looked back.

Since those days, I have since gone back and played plexi's and 800's, both with boosts and realized that I just didn't know what I was doing at the time, and really wish that I had a second go around with it. If you can find a cheap one, I would say go for it. Just know that you're going to have to dial in an AC/DC amount of gain and boost it into righteous territory.

I WISH I knew about boosting in my early years of playing. It would have made the search for a good heavy tone so much easier. I didn't know you could get a lot more gain out of an amp that was medium or low gain to start with.

I had one for years as my first decent amp. It could get loud and had enough cut to be heard well.

It was decent.

I like my old UK DSL100 much more. And that is still a cheap amp, just a bit better IMO.

I had a giveaway thread on this forum a few years back and gave it to a guy from the forum. He and his son did a tune up on it and used it.

Not a bad amp. But if you bond with it and play great with it, who cares. I would check an older UK DSL100 first.

Frank Hannon of TESLA has used 900's over the years and i consider him a tone master.

To me a "JCM 900" is to Marshall what "Windows Vista" is to Microsoft...

Need some opinions-thoughts of this amp(Marshall JCM900 SLX)Thanks...

I have a 100 watt SL-X and a 50 watt SL-X. I love the extended gain and the two switchable volume knobs. Sounds great on JJ's and hit the second volume for lead. Great amp.
