I heard they sound a bit harsh. Although theres a few clips on youtube that sound pretty decent.

Any DSL50/100 will put the SL-X to shame.
Any JCM800 will put them all to shame!

In short, I was used to preamps (ADA and Triaxis), where there was no need. I didn't like the fact, at the time, that it was a single channel and it only had useable gain up to 50%. It had two gain dials, which also didn't make since to me at the time, but anything over 50% and it would turn to fizzy mush. I later sold it and bought a Cameron Aldrich mod, which was the sound that I always thought Marshalls were and should be and never looked back.
Since those days, I have since gone back and played plexi's and 800's, both with boosts and realized that I just didn't know what I was doing at the time, and really wish that I had a second go around with it. If you can find a cheap one, I would say go for it. Just know that you're going to have to dial in an AC/DC amount of gain and boost it into righteous territory.
