Marshall JCM1 speaker

I recently got the jcm1 combo and think it's a great little amp. My friend has a jcm800 2203 reissue and in comparing them we both actually preferred the jcm1. I have the combo version so I can have a little amp when I want it but it's small enough to use as a head when I want. When you plug in an external speaker it auto disables the internal speaker so it's quick and easy. The speaker is the same as the one in the class 5 and it sounds so much better through a real cab I couldn't help playing around with speaker swaps. The first one I tried is that new 10" greenback and it made a world of difference, they did a great job on that speaker. So anybody with the jcm1 combo you should try the 10" greenback in it as it's a great improvement over the stock speaker.

Thanks for that. I'm ordering a JCM1 soon and I've been debating between the head and the combo. I like the look of the head more, but having a built in speaker obviously makes the combo ideal for portability. I have a cab as well so wouldn't plan on using the internal speaker much at all, so made me wonder which way to go. Also had the thought of a 10" V30, greenback, or 65 (if they make one). Glad to know someone else out there tried it and loved it.

I'd get the combo just because it isn't that much bigger and you can just not use the speaker. It's great for me as I've been using it around the house but can just plug it into a cab when I want. Win/win. Here are some quick clips made earlier today of the 10" greenback in it. The preamp is at 10, master at 4, treble at 7, mid at 4, bass at 7 and full power. The clips are with a sm57, beyer m201, and a cascade fathead. There are 4 riffs in each clip with the 1st being no boost and no pedal, the 2nd being no boost but a tube screamer in front, 3rd with the boost on but no tube screamer, 4th with boost on and the tube screamer in front. The tube screamer is gain at 9 oclock, tone at noon, and volume maxed. Each mic is right on the grill cloth about half way between the cap and edge of the cone with the fathead pulled back maybe 6 inches. I'll apologize up front for the playing :)

I would buy the head and get a 1-10 or 1-12 cube, the sound will be much better.
I have the JCM-1 head and play it through a 1x12 cab...sounds great. I have it sitting right next to my couch and play it half power mode while watching TV.
