Marshall JVM versus JCM800 video by Rabea Massaad

digitaljams tried to tell everyone here way back in the day that the JVM was an all-in-one killer amp. Nails high gain, rock, clean and edge of break up, it's one of the few perfect Mashall amps right out of the box. He was right this whole time.
As the resident JVM fanboy, loved mine since I first bought in '07. Served me well. Had modded one's, the Satch model but I prefer just a stock JVM410. It's not for everyone, no amp is but it would be funny if it had a "revival" period as @SonVolt said lol.

So, Rabea just plugged straight into that JCM 800 and rawdawg'd it huh, no OD or anything. Well yeah it was going to sound like shit and honestly he probably should have known better.

Also lol he said the 800 "actually has more gain" than the JVM. No, it doesn't. It just has zero input filtering, so it allows all the low end from the guitar to pass right into the gain stages in the front end, which overwhelms the mids and treble and garbles the piss out of everything. That's not "more" gain, it's just "poorly applied" gain.

Im always amazed at the great lenghts in detail & effort folks apply toward amps & gear i'll never buy.
Seems all that effort could be applied to something more constructive that actually matters.

I've been reading many threads here for a few years and never posted much, but you seem to really be a d*ck from your responses to people.
Seems your effort could be applied to maybe, like, enjoying life and getting some people skills.....

I agree with you here to a certain extent...You may not have noticed, but that JCM800 that he is playing is the new "modified" series just released by Marshall, so it does have considerably more gain than a stock 800. His actual comment is video is that it felt like (with the gain maxed) the mod 800 had more saturation then the JVM; which might make sense in the room as the OD1 channel is fairly dry and he runs the gain below noon. I think we all realize that the stock 800 is considerably under-gained by comparison to the OD channels on the JVM. In any case, the JVM sounded better that the mod series 800 to my ears.

I’ve been playing Marshalls since the late 70s,plexi’s,jmp,jcm 800, in a stock form they never impressed me for the sound I was looking for unless I had it modded(which I have done many times) or a overdrive pedal in front.

Yeah let's be honest....... unless it's fully cranked and even then or has an OD goosing it they usually do......

Also I mean shit gets old and worn out with more and more miles and years on it over the years but YMMV :dunno:
They never sounded good to me even when they were new. The 2205/10’s are the only 800’s I thought sounded good.

My old plexis were always modded 2203 circuits with 6550’s back in the day. They sounded good. But actual 2203’s whether JMP or JCM never sounded good. Just picked up a 78 2203, will see how it sounds when I get finished with it. Not holding high hopes, but it is beat to heck, so it might be a “good” one.

Yep one of the best master volumes around. All I can say is I never had issue playing live with the amp. Probably put in close to 300 gigs with it, always delivered. Many, many compliments as well. Probably the funniest was a guy in a band we opened for and he literally argued with me that I "had" to be running an OD pedal lol. I walked him through my rig at the time which was the JVM, my small rack that had my rack delay and racked pedals, switching system and my midi pedal board which had the GCX, wah and tuner. He still couldn't believe it, funny. It was just OD1 Orange with the gain a little less than noon. I had a volume boost in my rack delay that bumped the volume for leads the rest was me just working the volume knob on the guitar.

I'd love for them to update the amp as long as they don't neuter it like they did with the Satch model.
It’s a cool amp . I just hope they open it up more with less compression on all 4 channels . Just a lil let would help

I think it's a good comparison because even with those new modded 800's it's probably still gonna need a boost to goose it a little more and tighten it up plus Rabea knows how to dial in good tones so he knew what he was doing in my opinion.

But not surprised that OD1 Orange sounded great because the JVM Crunch, OD1 and OD2 was built on the 800 platform per Santiago. The whole intent of those channels was to build an 800 and then keep stacking gain per mode and per channel.

I think he sets up his amps weird , if me or you has both amps I bet the 800 modified could be better .
