Alright guys... This is my first post so I expect to catch some heat but I don't really care much

Anyway, I've been looking into the possibility of selling my Framus Cobra and replacing it with a Marshall JVM410H. The reason for this is the Cobra simply isn't satisfying my ear anymore. I love it and it sounds great but as with all guitarists I am on a constant quest for that perfect tone. When I bought the Cobra I was playing predominantly metal (The Acacia Strain, Bury Your Dead, Emmure etc) whatever sub-genre you want to throw those into go for it... It's still metal lol! But now, I have moved to a style more in the realm of Stone Sour, Alice in Chains etc. Stuff that has a good heavy tone but also can get a little bluesy. I just could never find a happy medium with the Framus for that.

I have been to a local guitar center 2 days the past week and paired the JVM through a Mesa cab (which is what I use) as well as found a guitar with a Seymour JB which is what I tend to use more often than not with my Les Paul and Strats. Every mode on every channel just sounds absolutely fantastic to me but I have been hearing good and bad about the amp and am not sure who to believe...

Does anyone here have one? Are they really as good as I think they are from my brief trials in GC? Can I still get nasty heavy with the amp in a low drop tuning to play what I use to with the Framus if I wanted to and sound good or does the amp struggle with that?

One of the big things that has my eye on this amp is the fact that everything is Midi addressable and the fact that I use a GCP and GCX switching system for the few pedals etc that I do use.

I appreciate all and any feedback from users!

Thanks Guys!

I have one. It is very versatile. Newer Marshall amps don't get much love among older JCM purists.

They are pretty cheap used. I would not under any circumstances buy one new. The local GC has a used one asking 1399$. Not a bad amp at all. I like my old DSL100 too for a great basic tone.

It does lose 50% of the value as soon as you walk out with it compare to other amps that hold value better.

Welcome to the RT nation dude. As far as owning a JVM, I'm a Mesa guy.....I had a custom LP built a while back, and my guy had his brother do a couple vids with it....one of which was a drop C test with a JVM into a Mesa Rec cab.....LP>BKP Holydivers>JVM>Mesa 2x12:

Hope it helps.

They're great amps. I own one and it ends up on recordings regularly. The only downside is the higher gain channels are a bit noisy, but it doesn't detract from the amp for me. Works through the Mesa cab great or Greenback loaded cabs. It doesn't love active pickups, but it doesn't hate them either. Boosting the amp is great too.

Use your ear man, if it sounds good to you than thats all that matters!

The main thing that was a concern for me with the JVM was the noise floor. But they've apparently fixed that with the Satriani version. If I was looking at a JVM I would get one of those myself...

I love the JVM and if i didn't have 2 Jubilees i would have a JVM

That sounds fucking amazing.

First of all, disregard anyone who says something like the post above...Anyone that says it will "cut the throat off and shit down the neck" of another amp, is extremely biased, or just tone deaf.....no 2000 dollar amp COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY 10000000 PERCENT DESTROYS WITHOUT QUESTION another amp....its called, perception, opinion, and perspective.....ESPECIALLY about an amp that is very much an acquired taste, like the splawn quickrod...But then again, I guess all amps are, aren't they?

Back to my original point. The JVM is a PHENOMINAL amp, period. It is the best thing Marshall has put out since the JCM800 in my opinion. It is just a fantastic amp that can do anything. The clean channel can be as sparkley or old school like a JTM45/plexi style clean tone: It does the JCM800 vibe EXTREMELY well, and blows right past the DSL and TSL stuff, and goes into some of the heaviest tones I have ever heard, the midrange brutality and grind of the EL34's in this modern marshall just flat out rules. It is by far ( IN MY OPINION) the best big scale production modern tube amp, outside of the 5153 on the market right now. It also is apparently incredibly easy to mod, and you can do just about anything to it to get what you want out of it, with a simple quick resistor changes: which their schematics are all over the web. Again, the downsize is yes, it can get rather noisey and squeely on the 4th channel orange and red. It also has more gain than a 5150...Yes, you read that right....It has just as much, if not more. I ran the gain at about 11 oclock max on channel 4 orange and red. Boosted? Even lower. A noisegate is a must with this amp on those channels I think as well.

The clips of the new satriani have been amazing. When Ola did his comparison of like 8 highgainer. For that kind of gain, I though the Marshall was only second to the diezel D-moll. Plus all the other stuff that it does really well. I have a JCM but if I was in the market for an amp. This would be on my radar.

take the money you will spend on the 410 and buy a splawn quickrod. It will cut the throat off and shit down the neck of the marshall, leave it on the side of the road for dead.
I own a Quickrod and the JVM hangs right there with it if not better..

I would go for the Satriani version as well. Built in noise gates on the JVM410JS too.

Agree. Check out the JVM HJS if you can. I've read up a bit on it and although Marshall officially states that "it is the same JVM" and denies that the HJS addresses any issues on the original JVM, it would appear that there is less noise and that all of the gain on channels 3/4 is now usable among other differences. As for getting really nasty? Hell yeah! Megadeths Endgame was done with the JVM.

I really want to buy one and have it painted a deep purple but with only 1 hum and 1 volume.

That'd be badass....got a long wait though; he's finishing up two Explorers and then taking on my next build. :D
