Oh, it will go to a collector Mentoneman. Dave Friedman may be bidding on it.:p:LOL:
that wouldn’t be so bad if he got it and used it to go to 5150,

forensically compare to 12301 with Metropolous, Germino, Mojave Victor, John Suhr, Zeke Clark, Matt Bruck, Rudy Leiren for roundtable discussions,

and get Gausted and Deraps and Wolfie to do demos recorded with 5150 studio gear,

and close the case to put this to bed once and for all!!!

Or Joe bonamassa
After my aforementioned proposed 12301/12302 side by side comparison, Joe would be the logical final caretaker!
I proposed in his Insta when he got the Gary Moore SLO that he should do an album with his top 10 amps in his collection, writing a song per amp in the style the amp inspires him to play,
with an accompanying liner note booklet documenting the history of the amp, how he got it, and detailed studio production notes for each song/tone/rig.

i think that would be a very popular album.

I think it's be proven over and over again but it's cool to hear an amp built right next to 12301. I think if they added the rest of the recipe, signal chain, correct speaker cabs/speakers to 12302 and a guitar player that digs in and plays with more ferocity force it would sound exactly like the VH-1 room mic clips that are all over YT. Regardless of all the incorrect things in that GC video you hear certain attributes in those tones and how the amp breaks up in the distorted notes.

In my humble opinion it has the most to do with how the power and output transformers of that time performed from the 12 series into 1969/70, (not that later Marshalls can't get the goods ) but 68-70 Marshalls just seem to have those intangible missing links more often than not.

i attended a plexi shootout and recorded my friends playing some mic’ed up clips of my peacemaker, a superbass, and 12000 series SL running through a fryette power station into a vintage marshall 4x12. not a VH lick in the house🤣

the clip is labeled if you open the soundcloud file in the app to see which amp/gtr is being used in each section.

tim pierce did a great vid demoing his marshalls and reiterating how typical cranked plexi marshalls aren’t “HIGH GAIN” at all.

Greg Germino took gutshots while he was going through the amp. He posed it next to one of his 67 45/100 builds.

the only Germino i’ve ever played was a Masonette cranked through an Ultimate/Ho attenuator and it sounded amazing.

this 12302 discovery video has me more inspired to jam on my Tonex-Peacemaker W/D rig in madison square garage lately.

working the combination of the pedal, amp, speakers, and wet fx is really fun!

my fist stab at making a mic’ed up clip of the Tonex-Peacemaker W/D and extremely tickled by my absolutely ghetto wet rig!

IMG_2617.jpeg

line out of Peacemaker into Hardwire reverb pedal - hall setting into the fx return of this dinky Tech 21 Trademark 10 combo i had collecting dust because the main input jack doesn’t work😁
dd-2 delay pedal = mic stand :rawk:

tonex pedal adds a little verb/delay to the front of Peacemaker, and this equally ghetto Yamaha mixer i bought at a pawner for 60 bones and barely works is panning dry left/wet right and adding a extra dash of master reverb.

headphone jack to cam trying to memory grab stream of consciousness pasadena licks out of my wazoo. dirty nails compliments of the 2 hrs of yardwork i did just prior to coming in for a jam!

yah it’s too much preamp gain, no it’s not blackback variac sunset verb Ed’s eyelashes accurate, but it is fun and my hands are telling my brain and ears that we’re close enough for government work 🎸

Yep that's the tone Mentoneman! :2thumbsup: Nice Back the Future setup..........I Love it! So you are basically Slaving the Tonex Ex pedal in to the low input of the Peacmaker exactly what Ed was doing on the 78 tour, even Friedman has finally admitted Ed was using load boxes and slaving at least for most of that tour because he had to admit Marshall Plexi tones were not coming out of those Musicman HD100's/65's except for being used as a slave amps.

That clip is as good as some of the best variaced Plexi's into an OXbox with the Sunset sound effects that I've heard and I'm sure it does low volume probably better, Those 78/79 tones have all the right accutrements in your clip. It's amazing that those tones emanate from those 78/79 captures in 1's and 0's!:2thumbsup:

All that TONE and NOT a Jose MOD in sight...............................:poke::LOL:

I'm running two Catalinbread Talismans for my Left and Right Plate Reverb in my W/D/W setup it' sounds massive.

Mahalo and high praise coming from a major vh scientist like yourself. i added chain details in the YT description.

and yup sinisterly ghetto in the accoutrements department. the knobs on that yamaha mixer crackle and drop out when turned so i have to find the setting then tap on them and slowly back away to make sound pass through😁

but very interesting on how instrumental mic eq is in fine tuning the “dry” sound — amp/speaker can be bright at the mic but turn down the highs to taste at the channel. just one step closer to earning the highly coveted Eddie’s Proctologist level VH fan badge🤣

fascinated by how this tech 21 toy combo with 6 inch crap speaker get the job done as a wet cab

enough to where i’m convinced that i could downsize space/weight and get a pair of barefaced 1x10 cabs to replace my current 1x12s for my main wdw rack rig or Peacemaker-Tonex WD use.

one question become do i wanna raffle off my spleen to get the active barefacers and will 1x10s work for dedicated stereo use with standalone Tonex or Axe Fx rigs?

another question:
are there any pedals like hotone verbera that can host the sunset sound reverb plug ins?

i bet!
that’s one thing that came up over and over again that i never really understood.

plate reverb for VH.

why and when did this become a thing?

i’ve actually used the amazing original EMT 140 juggernaut and it was a claim to fame centerpiece of my friend’s studio here on Oahu in the 80’s. I’ve never heard any device accurately mimic the original magical sound of it correctly, and he actually offered to GIVE it to me a few years ago but:

A) it’s massive and i don’t own a moving truck or recording studio, thus would not be my first choice for pedalboard use🤣
B) my wife would stab me if i brought that Stonehenge home unless i could hide it in drywall and pretend i’m reinforcing the garage 😁

They obviously used the Sunset Sound Reverb rooms but at one point I think they used plate reverb on later albums, I can't rememeber when they made the switch. It was a good sounding reverb pedal, easy to tweak that works well in my analog setup. Some still maintain there was some use of Plate reverb on the early albums, who really knows???????????:dunno:

There are some comparison clips of Sunset Sound Chamber versus EMT 140 Plate someone did in this thread you might find interesting.

The 78/79 ToneX shows you how integral the delay and reverb is to that VH1 VH2 recorded tone, take them out the recipe and it doesn't sound as good. This reminds me I haven't even plugged in my ToneX78/79 for about six months.........I really hate their platform for such a good sounding Digital program.:bleh:

i hear you re: tonex computer editor=soul sucking inspiration killer!! you have to dedicate 2 hours to update, reacquaint, edit, transfer, test..

i normally plan on 2 computer hours one night week and set small goals like try to work on 3 presets, then stop and take the pedal for a spin away from the computer.

then next day play those presets with fresh ears.

if you do that every week you can remain fluent with the comp side and make progress.

beyond the VH presets i have a few tone junkies vox/matchless/trainwreck type presets i work on and a few community user presets like friedman JEL/BE/SS and fender-dumble that sound good too.
