Is it called a Friedman ?
He missed a trick there
Could have had a Friedman Friedman
For sale at Guitar Guitar

My buddy went to school with Marty in Hawaii when he was younger. He said everyone would be outside during lunch and Marty would be tearing it up on the guitar.

I remember when I was in high school in Germany, me and a friend went downtown to this record store and I bought Jason Becker's solo album and he bought Marty Friedman's and we went home and listened to them and were blown away. I still have the Jason Becker album. :)

THat is one bad ass video man.

I was all Marty all the time before watching this, but holy crap, Chris is just amazing. I give the notch to Marty, he's a bit more diverse and uses more flash in his playing but damn, Poland brings the goods too.

The gap has closed to where I like both equally.

Thanks for this vid man

Chris

Again not to detract from Marty cause he's an amazing player. Just don't think Chris gets the credit for how badass he is and how unique his tone is.

Not much love for Chris here. I go Marty first but barely with Chris way ahead of the other two shredder dudes. Also yeah can't wait to try that Engl!

For me, hearing their leads back to back only strengthens the case for Marty. Poland is def a proficient player but those bends and arpeggios from Marty are la bomba!

My verdict is they are both BAD ASS!!
Love both the guys. Poland is such a monster. Grew up on peace sells.
But Marty brang in the new life.
Holy wars.... psshhhhh.... forget about it. Crushes

But then I listen to 'wake up dead' and I flip flop

More like the Tsar Bomba!!!!!

Not to discredit Marty in any way, but guess who wrote a vast majority of the solos in Rust? You guessed it, Chris Poland, he wrote a lot of the album in general. He wrote the solo on Tornado of souls and taught it to Marty. Chris is a monster player, just wasn't interested in being a full time member of the band, he collaborated with Dave, on a lot of Megadeth albums.

I just wanted to check my facts and I was wrong about Tornado, I think. He did however, do the demos for, "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due", "Take No Prisoners", and "Rust in Peace... Polaris". I know I read somewhere, that Chris worked out solos and taught Marty when he joined the band.

I'd find that extremely hard to believe; why the hell would Marty play someone else's solos, especially on an album he's recording?! It's not like the guy needed any help. I know for a fact (straight from the horse's mouth) that the tornado solo was all Marty.

I'm not buying that BS about Poland teaching Marty ANYTHING... lol

it's really baffling to see how some people can even believe this nonsense.

Yes, because Mustaine has the melodic sense to sing those iconic solos to Marty...LOL

I also am laughing. As if Marty listened to Poland and played his solos note for note in a style that was his own and already on all the other songs Poland is not phantom credited with. Then Mustaine sang all the arpeggios and exotic bends to Marty and made sure he played them just right and how Poland had shown him before showing Marty. Lol every one of those leads has Marty's playing on them. End thread on that one.

Poland rules over all of them. Not a single one of them has his touch or feel. He is hitting blue notes all over the place with fluid picking mixed with legato...Friedman on the other hand sounds lie he has a rough fuzzy attack on everything, not a clean of a player. Great ideas, but execution is not a fluid and engaging as Poland. I don't give a shit about the other guys...

Since when is music about precision? It can be but what about the art? If I want flawless picking I will listen to Paul Gilbert or a pin ball machine. Marty may not be the cleanest "technical" player out there but he is consistent and he plays with a lot of character and listening to all the solos below he isn't missing a step in his alternate picking. I don't hear sloppy, I hear fizzy tone that doesn't in any way affect his precision. If anything he is a casualty here of tone not precision. Vibrato is sick!
