KSR vs ENGL

I totally get the engl savage and powerball for the more processed modern sounding thing, but for my tastes, the artist (along with the blackmore and a few others with similar topology) is the best sounding engl and it isn't particularly close

It's got a way sharper, more focused midrange with way more "kerrang" than any of their normal line of amps, and it completely out punches most other amps in its price range... which I suspect the build quality is the reason why lol

I've used it in all the last few recordings for my punk band and it's sounded great.



Fingers crossed, I haven't had any problems with mine. I've gigged and done a couple mini tours so far and have had zero issues. It's been rock solid.

It does. Just the les paul, NAO, and my redplate v30 cab

Only thing fancy is the dude who engineered that record had some really insane vintage mic preamps - IIRC he has 4 ampex 351s or something crazy like that. And those were used on the guitars

Especially in the palm muted parts you can hear how much cut and midrange the artist has compared to the normal engl sound

Update - I'm going to skip the Engl for now. The Orion is still probably going to be the one for me, as soon as I sell this darn UV.

In the meantime, I impulsively ordered a completely different 20w amp because it was a killer deal. I'll post up an NAD as soon as it gets here and I spend time with it. Thanks all for the advice and info.

I've had an Artist with no issues for a while now

But I have had multiple fireball 60s and 100s that had issues

They are fantastic sounding amps, its just one of those things where you pray they don't go wrong

Artist is my favorite Marshally Channel switcher I've owned.

I loved the Artist and Blackmore I owned. Hi lead sounds like a properly boosted JCM800 with some recto low end punch added. Never had any problems with either in 8 or so combined years of ownership. Probably got lucky.

It is absolutely an underrated amp, especially with the youtube crowd it seems to fly completely under the radar

The switchable master volumes and gain settings make it basically the perfect gig-ready marshall channel switcher

I think because it's way more on the side of "usable gain" in a live band situation then madison square bedroom BE100 sat switch gain, it's thought of as kind of meh by most of the youtube/influencer braintrust and lauded as fantastic by people out there playing gigs or playing loud

He said purple, which makes me think SLO but obviously that's more expensive than an Orion, so that wouldn't be an impulse buy

But SLOs are divisive, not universally disliked on RT
