Megadeth’s cover of Ride the Lightning leaked

If his name is on the song he owns it. He doesn't need permission to record it. I doubt Metallica asked him permission to record it.

Several bands have recorded songs I wrote. They asked me before recording it.

Dave must feel in his mind that he started thrash metal, he started thrash guitar, and that he started Metallica. Now with him about to retire he feels that covering a Metallica song that he supposedly partly wrote is like coming full circle. Coming home. Completing his bucket list. His dying wish. His last supper. His last laugh. He must make it known to the world. Whatever helps him sleep at night I guess but jeez! I bet there will be a 14 page CD booklet explaining that very story.

Maybe the bitterness will slowly dissipate when this is officially released. And I doubt Metallica will ever even listen to the cover.

Yeah but you did an acoustic version of Toxic Waltz with Celine Dion. That doesn't count.

I think it is cool that Dave covered RTL and I personally don't think he did it because he hasn't gotten over it, etc. I'm sure he had to get permission from Metallica and at this point I think they probably thought it was cool but could be wrong.

Megadeth is just as good as Metallica IMO but not two bands that should be compared ever. Dave isn't going to sit down and write a "Nothing Else Matters".
The beginning of Tout Le Monde is 1000 times better than the entire runtime of Nothing Else Matters.

I love Tout Le Monde but no way. It's a tie. All joking aside, that is a great song.

Dave definitely at least partially wrote many of the early Metallica songs. They did give him writing credit on some of the songs. Ride the Lightning (the song) was one of these examples. How much of it he wrote, I have no idea.

Yes, and Mr. Dave's version of those songs have never been as good as Metallica's. Seriously, listen to The Four Horsemen (GOAT Tier), then The Mechanix......are you kidding me????

And although he is a better overall guitarist in many ways and creative force by far than Mr. Hammett, Kirk was the right man to be in Metallica when they were ascending. Dave would have self-destructed before they made it big and would have come up with wandering drunken rage solos. Gotta give Kirk credit, his '80s solos were very creative and he had his own style.

Dave is FAR too old and too rich to remain so bitter.......
