Have no idea. Haven't played one.

I played Suhr's, Andersons and PRS's (these out the ying yang). I don't own one nor do I have gas to own one...
The McFarty was nice though lol :D I can get that used for $1100 and put good pups in it and it'll be cool.

On a separate note... Borrowed grooveHT's Hamer USA Dual Cutaway and it kicks ass! No one talks about them though lol :D

The gear world has generally gone mad pricing-wise. No doubt about it. Folks are all too happy to chase and chase and chase. If you're smart, all you'll be doing is reaffirming that yup... an EVH is good-enough LOL :D
If you're not? You're probably going to continue chasing and trying and pontificating on the finer attributes of this $4k guitar and that $4k amp.

Interesting stuff here... I went to test me some Les Pauls again today. Ended up trying a few PRS, SE's and US ones.

First of all, I never gave PRS much weight you know, I'd tried some and they never did anything for me. But man today, ALL of the ones I tried were better than the Gibsons I played.

I started with an Epi LP Gold Top, advanced to a 2016 Gibson LP Studio, 2016 Standard T... all were ok, didn't make me go "whoa, this I gotta have NAO don't care abt the price tag!" (like I could spend whåtever I want LOL :D). Just ok, even the LP Standard with a $3000 price tag.... I had a great time with them sure!

Oh, I see. Half a wall of PRS. And there's the Zach Meyers SE. I wonder... well I'll give it a try, can't hurt and I'm not in a hurry yet. Oh this feels nice, mucho bettero than any of the ones I've tried... I wonder how the Custom 24's are?!

So I go pick up this $1000 Korean SE Custom 24. F**K me and the horse I rode in on, what ju-ju is this?! I literally couldn't stop playing the damn thing for 30-40 mins. It felt and sounded (unplugged mind you) so damn good! I took another SE and tried if the one I tried first was a special one from a special batch made by elves in the fires of mount Doom... but no, that one and the one after that were equally impressive. I was and still am bedazzled.

So I am really curious at this point. I wonder... if the Korean SE's are so good, how are the 4x more expensive US made ones? Do they play better, sound better, make me shred even more YJM than I do now?!

Turns out, they don't do all that. They do have nicer tops (well, they all were 10 tops), but the things I am after in a guitar were on par with the Korean ones. Except for the price. Well, ok, may be they were a bit better overall (although I was disappointed my YJM skills weren't improved), but $3000 better? Not that much, in my very humble opinion.

So yeah... I kinda have to agree with Vrad & shreder. It's mad how new shit is being priced.
 
Is it that new US/UK stuff is so expensive now, or that Asian-made stuff is so cheap?

Either way, Ive had a lot of guitats and I can play any of them as long as the neck's straight and the frets are reasonably level. I'm a bit pickier about amps, but lots of cheap Marshalls and Peaveys etc. sound good to me. Most of the records we love were cut with ordinary stuff. Like when Michael Wagner released his Kemper profiles and some folks scoffed at the amps. lol, those amps only were used to record some badass soundimg records, that'll all.

It's fun to have expensive, exclusive stuff, but there's something satisfying about having fun with Boss pedals and a stock Marshall or whatever.

There's a threshold of objective value mentioned earlier which I certainly agree with.

Of the many guitars I've owned, some of which were budget line instruments from NE Asia, I've definitely been happier with all of the standard/premium guitars i've owned in terms of feel, sound & overall build quality. There may be some really resonant, playable budget guitars out there somewhere but I've not yet come across one I was really happy with.

In terms of aesthetics inflating the price, beauty doesn't affect the sound of the instrument, agreed. But it does inspire people to pick it up, play it & spend time with it.
When people post up pictures of stunning guitars, rarely does anyone voice deliberate disinterest in the way it looks and comment that the owner was misguided in their purchase.
 
Is it me or did amp prices jump after the Fender EVH hit the market? (Yeah, I bought one) Even with the difference between the dollar and euro, It seems like Marshalls were reasonably priced, but after the 5150III.. LOOOK OUT MAAAAAN! everything went up. I am cheap when It comes to gear. But sometimes get caught up in the hype. The guitar I play the most cost me 50 bucks, and rocks harder then my Jackson kelly pro, which is a shred machine. The mark up on this stuff is outrageous... but if you want it you're gonna pay. I understand the price of a handwired amp compared to a mass produced, more time, labor... etc. but paying 4 grand on an amp or guitar just because it costs that much?... nah. Like stated before, play before you pay, and there are good deals here.

in 1995 I bought a USA Jackson soloist, 1400 bucks I think, then I bought my Jackson Kelly Pro (neck through with J92C bridge pups) made in Japan, same price. The soloist rocked, but the Kelly had the IT factor, I sold my soloist (dumbass) and kept the Kelly. It's not my favorite, but is the fastest guitar I ever played.
 
I actually joined RT because of the awesome high end gear for sale!
 
Why would you want to pay $70 on shipping $450 guitar? I can take that guitar to guitar center, loose $100 but it'll be cash in hand and no hassle with shipping.
Plus, starting around 2008, marks the boutique era of the guitars.
