Mesa, Marshall, Bogner, or Diezel- What's your favorite

I haven't owned many amps because I spent a lot of time saving up for my VH4, but I've played quite a few and this is my take (so far):

Marshalls- I know Marshalls aren't made to be clean amps, but I need a decent clean channel for my style of playing, and I've never heard a Marshall with a clean that I've liked. This and the fact that I don't get to crank my amps loud very often. Marshalls obviously sound their best when the master is pushed, so it's irritating having to worry about buying extra equipment like a hotplate or something to get the sound I'm after. They sound awesome when you find one that you like and have a great guitar to match though! Thinking about buying another despite these complaints, go figure. Haven't played a JVM, people seem to be liking those...

Mesa- You have to spend a hell of a lot of time tweaking to find your sweet spot. Until you find it, things can be buzzy or muddy, depending on which model you have. When you find the sweet spot it kicks ass, but you have to go through a lot more effort to get to it than with other amps, IMHO. Great lead sounds, so-so rhythm. I hope to play a IIC+ someday, maybe even own one if the price is right.

Bogner- Never played one, but judging from the CDs I've listened to that have them and various clips on the net these are the most saturated of the bunch...which is why I really want one!

Diezel- This is where my bias lies, being a VH4 guy. F*cking awesome. Blows most Mesa/Marshalls away in terms of tonal variety and switching options. So glad that I saved up for one, though I haven't had the chance to play all of the different Diezels to see which model suits me best. I just got the VH4 based on reputation, and from the Diezel forum the Herbie is sounding more like my sort of thing (this has absolutely nothing to do with sound quality though, just personal taste in voicing). I'm in no way unhappy with my decision to go Diezel. This thing is both beautiful AND a beast. Tight as hell, amazing definition, and sounds great at all volume levels. You can easily hear the differences between guitars (through some amps, everything sounds the same). Oh, did I mention the awesome customer service on this board?

mainly a metal player, and really dig the Herbert. It's become my measuring stick for every other amp I try. For my tastes, it does everything and does it great, from chimey cleans, to crunch, to all out modern aggressive metal. Really like Bogner too, loved my Uberschall, just thought for the way I dialed it, I liked the Herbert better. Picked up an XTC though, not really expecting to keep it a long time, but I just can't let it go. Isn't really aimed at the kind of music I play the most, but it's so fun to play, it's making me venture into different genres. First amp I've owned that's made me want to play stuff to suit the amp, rather than the other way around.

Ive played it all...
The Diezel herbert is the most versitile flexible amp ive ever played. FX loops are great, fullly midi, 3 separate channels all with options of mid cut, and with options of Vol 1 or 2, and ch.2 with the +- switch, giving you really a total of more than 3 channels. ...more like 12 channels now! The cleans are blossoming (awesome). The gain in - is great vintage tone. The gain in + or chan 3 is purely the beefiest warm tone i have yet to hear out of any amp. Lots of sustain. There are maybe a few things that i would make different about it, but nothings perfect. Loved the VH4 btw.
I also have a JVM that is a great amp but at high volumes is just too thin and piercing for my taste. But not terrible, im just picky. Its a great sounding amp as well. Have never cared too much for mesa stuff although ive not played all of them. Didnt care for any of the recto's too bright. Loved the nomad for blues tone! The one i did in fact like is the Road King. I almost bought that before getting the herbert. thats a fine sounding amp. but then again ive never pushed it to high volumes. THAT is how you know a good or bad amp.
One amp that i recently played that i was blow away by is the 5153. The gain on that just NAILS what i want in Rythym tone! It just is un-real.. Im sure leads on it are a breeze...much like the JVM.

after way too many years and way too much money, I end up coming back to a marshall

sub

+1
~40 heads later (3/4 'boutique').....i come back to a plexi, jcm800 or a fender bassman,
With the right pedals, there is no style i can't do.

These threads are always kinda post what you have, lol. But yeah, I'd say my bogner xtc classic does it all for me. I've yet to find a sound that I couldn't do with the right guitar and/or boost. I definitely like Marshalls too, and mesas and diezels to some extent. None of these amps "suck" IMO, but they're all voiced differently and which voicing you like comes down to personal preference. Same thing with which amp's feel you like best.

Bogner & Diezel - I'm done looking for amps.

I would agree , but throw in a Cornford Mk 50 also and i'm there

Orange TT cause it's what I can afford?

I've played through several older Marshall JCM series, as well as a Mesa Blue Angel.... I really loved the MB, but that was years ago. I'm not sure what I'd think now.

Never tried a Bogner or Diezel, I'm sure they're both incredible.

call me a freak - my main rig is a Lonestar a/b'd with a JCM 800 combo.

Use the Lonestar for cleans and classic/pop crunch ( I play in a top 40 band)
Use the Marshall for some more aggressive stuff in same band ie Green Day, Black Crowes

Cool thing is I could live with this rig in just about any band situation I have ever been in.

I prefer Mesas of the four listed. However, my TriAmp has been tweeking my nipps for the past few months. It's like the best of Boogie and Marshall in one box.

how about all of them!

i was a Mesa guy for quite awhile, and probably still would be if damned things had adjustible bias. maybe should have got a bias mod on one before giving up on them?

Favorites:

Egnater (MOD100, MOD50, M4)
Fender (Super Reverb, Twin, Bandmaster)
Fuchs (ODS, TDS)
Marshall (Plexi Super Lead, JMP SL, 6100)
Mesa/Boogie (MKII, MKIII, MKIV)
Mojave (Peacemaker, Plexi45)
Two Rock (Opal, Custom)
Vox (AC30)-NOT the Chinese one

Those above listed are some of my favorites, but they are all tools, and the preferred one depends on the target I'm striving for.

I've played through soo much stuff, Bogners, Diezels, ENgl, etc etc. For me, this is it. Everyone has their own taste and you gotta decide for yourself.

What a clean and simple setup.

Of the four I would say Mesa. I adore the Mark series. Best rock lead tone ever!!

Really nice box that is in...

All are fantastic (of course).....but I think Mesas have the widest palette of different tones, which is why I use one. My Tremoverb always has so much more range than whatever I set it up next to.

To be honest, i like my old solid state Randall's more than anything for the metal sounds i'm after. i guess they are just my sound?
