Mesa Recto: Multiwatt vs others?

I've got a tremoverb combo and a MW dual. If going for the absolute best possible tone the tov might have a *slight* edge (i mean very slight), but the options and tweak ability, along with a killer series fx loop, mean that if i had to pick just one it would be the MW.

I have a G triple & a MW dual. I love them both for different reasons. The MW isn't the absolute best at anything, but it's really damn good at everything. Excellent for a gigging amp.

The G Triple is just a BEAST. Cleans suck but who cares. Orange & red channels are that sound.

The MW is a good amp. Lots of fantastic features and very versatile.
I owned one for a bit, and I agree it would be a great gigging amp.
But for "THAT" sound, the Rev G triple I have now just kills.
I feel really fortunate to have found it in the condition it was in, for the price I paid.
It's a freakin' beast

The early 3 channel recto's are actually pretty good sounding. The later ones, not so much. I think it's because of the transformers used. For example, listen to SYL "Alien". That is i believe, a early 3 channel dual rectifier blended with some 5150. Killer tone. Also boosted with a maxon od808 as well.

I would love to find out the % of people who could actually discern one rev vs another in a blind test.

The multiwatt is a tad more modern or hifi sounding. It also has a very reasonable clean channel. I only like the multiwatt with 6CA7 tubes...they really open up the sound. Rev g is a little warmer and richer.
That's what I put in the Multiwatt I had, JJ 6CA7's hand-picked by Eurotubes that got the bias up to 32mA. Sounded fantastic, but it was loud AF and had a zero to holy shit volume taper.

Since Mesa's in a reissue mode, I'd like to see a RI Single Recto with a modern series FX Loop. I loved the Single, but I had one with a garbage FX loop.
