Anyone have one? Or played one. Thinking about buying one. Thoughts and opinions. I should say Im on a budget.

I had an Ace. Thought it was a great sounding amp. Very marshally. Sold it because of GAS. Some say they are too bright but I never thought it was any brighter then a 2203. Kept my presence and highs down and sounded fine.

Try before you buy if possible. On a good cab and tweaked right they can sound good.

fav
get one with a II over the input jack or on switch

I love mine but agree with this. Also with getting a Stage II. I played a few and thought they were meh but came across one that just sounded, right. It's probably my #1 amp. Or at least buy from a place that has a return policy if you're buying sight unseen.

I've gotta say it sounds as good (just different) to me as the Friedman stuff I've demoed in regards to a hot Marshall tone . Throw in separate EQ's and multiple gain voicings, solo volume boost, internal voltage selection, tube/diode rec and a pretty decent loop. It's got a nice array of features and tones.

I liked the one I had..... But also recommend trying first.

It's a good amp, but you have to be able to dial it in. Not my fav but have owned a couple. And agreed, go with a stage 2.

I loved my ace, sold it on here recently actually for a kemper.
Two me, it's the best of both worlds, a hotroded marshall sound but with that mesa thump.
And yes get the stage 2 the gain is so much better.

I preferred Stage I...... I am not into high gain and liked the voicing better.

I had a 2 stage 2s and loved them. They sounded great with EMG equipped Ibanez 7s strings.

You know many will disagree with me here but......if you take a Stage 2 or an Ace and put it on a good cab, tweak it right, and boost it with a good OD it can stand up to the modded Marshalls of the world like the Camerons and whatnot.

Obviously he's boosting it, has delay going, and sounds like a chorus and it sounds loud. But is this not some serious ripping 80's tones?

That's the vid that inspired me to get the stiletto trident (stage II) that I used to own. It was a really great amp, but my Wizard just sounded a lot better when I AB'ed them. Still, SUPER underrated and one of the best marshall-type amps that I've tried.

Definitely an amp you have to tweak by ear, once dialed in-great cutting tone. I had an early deuce.

Also I ran mine with 6CA7s and greenbacks so I'm not sure what it kind of difference that might have made. I've been GASsin hard for another Ace

I bought a Trident when Guitar Center was Green Tag blowing them out the door.
Think I snagged it brand new for $1100.00 out the door.

Should be able to grab a used one cheap.

Timely post, I've been debating one for awhile. Had the Ace combo when it first came. Didnt last that long.
Been looking for a back up to my Small Box. Just picked up a Deuce II sounds very good once dialed in. Great amp at the price they're going for.
