I thought the Exodus song sounded great until the vocals came in.

Some great metal albums from recent times :

Car Bomb - Meta
Volumes - Via
BLS - Grimmest Hits
Narrow Head - Moments Of Clarity
Ningen Isu - Shin Seinen
etc. etc.

You just have to look harder than before amongst the flow of internet liquid shit...

I don’t really care about innovating so much, that’s not something that can be controlled and no one can make it happen just because they want it to. I also fully believe it often comes as a result of musicians being so fucking sick of everything around them they have to push out something entirely different……for it to eventually be homogenized and copied.

Most of the stuff I’ve been listening to when I’m looking for new stuff is incorporating other genres than metal, the newest Better Lovers album is fucking great. Not many standard song structures and Greg Pucciato pretty much takes off where King For A Day Mike Patton left off.

And then a song like this exists on the same album that shows they know how to write an ear worm and a half. Fucking love this song and it’s got a really fucking cool solo that I’m not even sure how they got the sound for.

I find it hard to listen to younger metal bands. Maybe it’s just that metal has always been pushed by people of the same general young age and I’ve aged out from being younger and looking up at those guys, to being older than them and now seeing newer metal bands as a bunch of children wearing their dads’ jackets playing pretend and trying to look tough. It’s just lame.

Then again there’s also a trend I’ve noticed, where metal has tended to fall away from right hand-centric strength and ferocity, and more into left hand-centric grace and dexterity, and that sound, while technically neat I guess, just isn’t as moving to me.
There’s great young bands . But not many .

metal isn't dead, but it's been on cliche life support for over 2 decades; and it smells bad too.

modern formula. quantize, quantize, quantize then just tune down to subsonic levels, overload with gain, lose any note separation and clarity, add cookie monster vocals.

metal jumped the shark in the '00s

That's because it isn't metal anymore

It's been infected with "-core" AIDS

Goofy is what I meant lol
But this looks like what he’d be into now lol

If he is, I sure couldn't find any pictures of him golfing. I was hoping to save myself some trouble and use an existing pic, but had to make my own fake one.

I dunno, I miss the feeling of headbanging when I hear a song for the first time. It's almost like forcing yourself to listen to some unknown band with one hit song on an album full of filler.

I posted old bands because they're the guys still raking in the money and filling arenas more than some of the newer acts. Underground bands are really hard to find now more than ever, and they don't really draw crowds.

Someone mentioned Sleeptoken and I feel I just can't relate to some group like that getting a Grammy nomination for some shite song, which seems more like a trend thing.

It's like someone said, "Hey, let's ruin metal and make it something that only clueless teenagers will listen to."

I saw the recommendations and will listen to those bands.

Sleep Token is just Hamilton for goth kids. (I don’t mind them btw).

I thought the last 2 Lamb of God albums were pretty damn good. BUT MUH CHRISSSSSSS.

I think the streaming platform you listen on makes enough of a difference to matter too. I switched over to some more hifi and found I was vibing to a lot more music than normal. Most of us on here can pick up damn pick chirps on records so you can’t tell me the “most people can’t tell a difference”. Test them side by side and see which one you vibed to not which details you picked up.

I really like the music on this record, but the drum production gets really fatiguing for me. I dig a lot of the vocals but I can’t help but miss what I know Keith would do with it. Jordan is like the Iommi of hardcore, just years of riffs and ideas that almost always deliver.
