Sorry to bring back this old thread, but I just wanted to say that I was at Destroy All Guitars the other day and got to AB the Landry G3, Metroplex, and Reeves Super 78 and the Metroplex killed both, especially for playing leads. The Metroplex was the most open, organic, articulate, and ballsy. It was the best Marshally amp I've ever played. The Landry though had possibly the best clean of any high gain amp I've ever heard, but not sure if it would beat the cleans of my Wizard.
What did you think of the Reeves? I was curious about that amp and if it's more Plexi or 800. That and the amorris GCM-008 are on the list of amps id like to compare to the Metro-Plex to see if they offer up something different enough to justify them.
The Reeves was good, but my least favorite of the 3. It had this inherent raspiness/slight harshness that I didn't like, and the bottom end wasn't as tight as the other amps, so the chugs weren't the best. I preferred it to the Landry for playing leads, but the Metroplex still smoked it for leads and sounded better overall.
I also really don't get why some guys here are describing the Metroplex as being smeared or fuzzy sounding. It was one of the most articulate amps I've tried. I don't think there's any amp I've tried that I'd says has better clarity but maybe a few that are similarly good.
