I've always heard how these 2 speakers match up well in a 2x12 so i gave it a shot. Glad i did, it sounds much better to me than 2 V30's. I'm not the best at describing tone but let's just say it sounds great and I'd never go back to 2 V30's in a 2x12. The G12H30 seems to really balance things out.

Hmmm, been thinking about doing this in a 4x12 that currently has all H30's.

I've ran this combo in my Bogner OS2x12 for awhile now and I like it as well.

If you really want to hear something... Try and H30, and a Classic Lead 80.

Mark Cameron has always used this, and comes in his cabs as standard... It really gives you a full range sound!

So now that your cab is 60 watts, are you running a 50 watt head through it?

That is supposed to be a tried an true speaker combo. My buddy is using that mix with his Peavey Classic 30, a G12h30 and a closed back 112 with a Veteran 30.

I haven't heard of the G12H30 and CL80 combo, that doesn't seem like it would work well to me. A Cl80 and V30 mix well...

V30's are rated at 60 watts.
Yes, but adding the G30 makes a 2x12 combo have a 60 watt handling capability. I'm sure danyeo knows this.

Actually i didn't know that. I thought a 60 watt speaker with a 30 watt speaker would make it a 90 watt cab? How could it be 60? Parallel wiring? Shouldn't matter anyway as plenty of guys are using 2 Greenbacks in 2x12's without issue, as long as the amp isn't cranked.

I'm actually thinking of going to this configuration as well, but a greenback 25 instead of the G12H 30w. Are both speakers 8 ohm ?

I always use 16 ohm speakers wired parallel. That way if one goes, you are offered a bit of protection. I have also heard that mixing speakers in series causes the speakers to take on similar characteristics. Series also decreases low end response a bit.

The h30 and v30 mix is cool, but I prefer a Mojo bv-30H and a vintage 30. The mojo is warmer and balances very well with the v30. Another really good mix is a vintage 30 with a beam blocker on one side and a Greenback on the other side. The blocker on the v30 evens out the perceived volume of the 2 speakers.

Yeah, it's always the lowest wattage speaker times the number of speakers in the cab. You are going from a 120 watt cab to a 60 watt cab. If you replace one of the speakers with a GB, the cab will be 50 watts.
Like you said, you will be fine as long as you aren't diming your amp all the time. Speakers can handle a bit more than they are rated at too.

Mark had told me his old cab w/ 65's was his personal favorite. I thought his cabs you "could" order came with all H30's, no?

Question:
How would you record a cab with mixed speakers? Mic each speaker separately and blend to taste, or set one mic about 3 feet in front of the cab and grab the sound from there?

Russ

I use 2 mics when recording my cab anyway, whether all the speakers are the same or not. For me I use an SM57 and EV N/D468 and blend to taste.

Live is a different story, I would just mic one speaker 90% of the time. Actually I have never gigged with a cab that has two different speakers.

The V30 / H30 is my favorite combination of all the ones I have tried.

For mic I use the speaker that mic up best. In this case it would be the V30.

As stated above number of speakers X the rating of the lowest watt speaker is the amount of the cab.

In this case the the lowest is 30. 30 X 2 = 60watts.

Same thing I have in my paisley 2x12.

I run this mix in a marshall 2x12
everyone that hears it comments on the sound being great
only thing I might want to try instead is an H30 w/ a gold

for a an amp that has a jtm, blackface and vox channel

Yes! You can get them with 4 H30's also...

I have Mark's Personal CCV cab with 4 CL80's in it... He thought it was a little dark but IT'S RIGHT UP MY ALLEY! :inlove: :inlove: LOVE IT-LOVE IT-LOVE IT! :inlove: :inlove:

IMHO All H30's is going to be a Bit Bright...
