So, I absolutely love my runt 20, but have wanted a something with some more muscle. I came across a 100W Metro Kit last week and decided to put it under the knife.

What I have so far is the Brown eye-ish channel and while I'm waiting for my relays, socket and pots to come in, left the low input in there so i can use it like the plexi channel on from the smallbox. If got the fat mod, sat mod, and c45 mod in there as well as the voice swithc

Once my pasts come in, I will go full on switchable HBE-ish and clean channel, and DC heaters, etc.... Having never played the BE-100 i'm not sure how close I got.

Overall, I can see how some people think it's dark if they have only played it at low volumes. Once you hit the sweet spot, it's opens up. I found that I like the C45 mod as it seems to give it a little more gain and crunch. It seems like the amp has lots of gain even before hitting the sat switch. I think the sat, fat and voice switch work best at lower gain and volume settings. If I don't want to turn it up the sat give me that fluid lead tones without having to push the amp while the FAT and Voice allows for be to thicken the tone at lower gain setting. Seems like this already has lots of low end so the FAT switch really might be overkill at higher gain and volume settings. I'm also using stock Marshall filtering, not the lower filter in the actual BE and I'm also waiting on 3H choke to try out since I have a 10H in there. I typically like a 3H choke for more modern sounds

Very cool. I never use any of the extra options on my BE. Post some clips when you get it done.

One thing I noticed about C45 is that it cleans up better when rolling back guitar volume. C45 and HBE didn't mix well for me.

It already has enough gain on tap for me, so I can imagine whats in store with the HBE :D

Yeah, this looks like a cool project  Looking forward to a clip.

Funny, but I don't use any of the options on my BE100 either. All switches off and voice switch to the left. Gain on about 6 and I switch between BE & HBE mode. Works for me

I hated all of those 500pf caps across the various resistors. I removed them in my JCA20... then ended up making it to Cameron specs.

All sorts of variations on the clippers but if you never use them might not be worth the time exploring. You can use regular zeners 1N4747 (20v threshold iirc) or other clipping threshold zeners. Or you can use transistors like MPSA06 (NPN, 4v threshold) or 2N5400 (PNP, 5v threshold) or others. And you can stack them however you want, symmetrical or asymmetrical (and then you can flip the asymmetry each way and see if one way sounds better, it does imle).

One day I decided to build an assymetrical clipper using 2 each MPSA06 (8v threshold total) and 2 each 2N5400 (10v threshold total) but I forgot that one was NPN and one was PNP. So I essentially made a fancy 18v zener (10v + 8v). Soon as I turned off the heat gun I realized it and said aloud; "Fuck, that won't work." But I decided to connect it with a 1N4747 (20v) for an asymmetrical clipper. It def sounded better connected one way than the other. I don't know if it was letting some of the natural amp assymetry thru or 'correcting' that natural asymmetry and I never 'scoped it (one day I will). Anyway, food for thought.
