Just curious if you guys have any cool modified Klon Centaur style pedals out there that sound better than the originals. I'm not usually into the stock versions, but I've heard some really good ones out there that have had a few tweaks done to them.

I spent a few months mastering the circuit and modifying it to sound better. This is about as good as I've gotten them to sound so far.

I never had the original, but I have two Klones. One was modded to have a bass switch, unstacked the gain and clean pots, and modded the clipping to become the best bass boost on the planet in the Griffin Analog Chiron Deluxe.

The other is pink.

Rockett Archer. Such a great transparent pedal if you want it to be.

I think this is pretty much a stock Centaur type circuit with Russian equivalent 1N34A germanium diodes. They sound pretty good as a transparent boost, but I wasn’t really a fan of the clipping texture of those diodes in the overdrive area of the gain control. Decent build though!

The only one I have messed with that you may consider as a modded klon is the Tumnus, it has the mid bump set a little lower mid than the Klon, its been a while since I ran it as a comparison, but I dont remember it having the headroom of my klon either. I had both the mini and deluxe when they came out, and I was mainly looking for something that I could put on a board so I could avoid taking my klon out unless I really wanted to.

I have a Warm Audio klone, but have yet to plug it up for a side by side.

I've heard good things about the Tumnus Deluxe Germanium 1N34A edition. I really dig the EQ section on that pedal from the demo Brian did online. Very cool sounding and a much better upgrade over the KTR.

My fave Klone type pedal is the Rimrock Mythical od.
I've had it for about 7 or 8 years so, sorry, I can't remember what 2 clipping options I ordered.
No idea how it compares to a real Klon ( never owned one) , but it sure sounds damn good to me.
The Archer Ikon i had was cool, but the Mythical sent it down the road.
Liked the Tumnus ok as well, but again, Mythical was better.

I've seen those around on Reverb, haven't got a chance to try one yet though. Would love to hear some clips of yours if you have any.

I haven’t tried the Ge one, but I prefer the Klon over the Tumnus, I could see where someone would prefer the Tumnus too.
