Mojotone price increase !!!

Get used to it. Tariffs are out of control. I’m paying a lot of extra money in tariffs for parts to mod and build amps. Up to 44% extra.

Everyone thinks other countries are absorbing these costs. They 100% are not. They are all passed on to the consumer in the US. It’s a tax on Americans disguised and sold as a tariff on other countries.

The common response is, “well, buy US made products then.” That’s totally and completely unrealistic. Go source parts to build an amp
from the US. Not going to happen. They’re all made overseas.

Trust me, I thought these tariffs were a good idea until I realized how they work. I have to raise my prices to compensate. So it creates inflation as well.

All these billions coming in are coming out of American small business owners’ pockets. And then these $2k checks will supposedly go out. But guys like me won’t see a dime because we work our asses off and make too much money, even though we are the ones paying the bulk of the tariffs. Not that I want any government subsidies anyway.

I avoid politics as much as possible but this isn’t taking sides or being partisan, it’s just a fact. Once these tariffs affect you personally and your ability to make a living you’ll really start to understand. I’ve realized it’s easy to shift the blame and think it’s not a big deal when it doesn’t affect you directly.

I’m sure Mojotone is getting a lot of material from overseas and this is a way to combat loss of profits. Can’t blame them.

Yea.. I've been building pedals and my margins are still OK, but it's insane to pay $$$ for the same thing I bought last year for no reason. I literally cannot get these parts in America and the ones I can are 20x the price. The difference is between 35¢ for a single USA resistor and 1.5¢ for 10 import resistors. Add that up for all the resistors, caps, knobs, etc.. A lot of companies are just eating the smaller margins, but some can't weather it out this long. The margins on amps and cabs now are bleak. 10-15% on some of the bigger name cabinets.

Agreed, except that tariffs do not create inflation. Tariffs produce higher prices, but inflation is expanding the supply of money or credit.
If anything especially in with higher inflation......

Tarrifs kind of help tame inflation too as they affect demand on some level.

Yeah when you build a complete amp, you’re looking at an increase of at least 20-30%. A $3500 amp is now up to $4550. No one will pay $1k extra for the same thing so it comes out of profits from the builder.

That makes sense. I was just equating higher prices with inflation in my mind. But I’m glad you explained that.

I had spoke about this months ago and was quickly dismissed as many said I was wrong, but now we are actually starting to see how this is affecting many businesses in the U.S.

Tariffs were always a tax on the U.S. companies who then have no choice but to pass this on to the customer.

It was cleverly disguised in a way that sounded like the foreign countries were going to absorb it but they just passed it onto us as that's what tariffs are.

It's interesting because inflation is often described an invisible "tax". Tariffs are definitely a tax, yet they aren't considered inflation in the true definition. I guess inflation isn't really a tax, but it sure ends up with same results of losing purchasing power.

But anyway, yeah, this point in time is going to be interesting. I just fear that some high end companies might go out of business if they cannot sell their product at a price that people can afford. I'm not blaming the companies at all.

I’ll be honest, I bought into it and thought just like those people who told you that you were wrong. Once something affects you directly, you realize the truth about it. No way to deny it at that point.

It sucks on so many levels and hope the insanity stops at some point as I have noticed certain things have had the tariffs already walked back so only time will tell as not everything can be sourced and made here in the good old USA...

"Tariffs absolutely don't make prices higher!"
"We are removing tariffs on coffee and beef because they were making prices too high."
Lol

Empathy....Ever hear of the word?

Just in case you haven't.. Translation...

The ability to understand and share the feelings of another even if it's not affecting you directly.
A fundamental differing point. Some have this, others don't.

I don’t get folks being surprised all of a sudden and it needing to happen to them to get it. There was no disguising or hiding what the tariffs do. They just flat out lied about it and unfortunately a lot of folks who are not dumb still believed it or didn’t want to reckon with it because it put them at odds with their candidate of choice.
They are protectionist and a tax. We were always going to pay them as the end user. This time though we also got a President who used them as a method of stock manipulation for his own gain.

He has fooled a lot of people unfortunately. Great businessman though.... LOL

So your saying you don't care if other American small businesses and Americans are suffering...

Ok Got it !
Would you shed tears if your multi millionaire boss made 2% less in a year and gave you a 70 cent raise for example?
Life is every man for himself...having a "small business" anywhere in the world at any time is a calculated risk.

So who exactly dialed up all this political bullshit when the components of a guitar cabinet can easily be sourced from the US where you pay zero tariffs? Casters from SCC in West Reading, Tolex from Keyline in Trenton, plywood from a million mills all over the US.

If you specifically select foreign made speakers that's the only component that should be subject to rariffs.

Methinks we have more than a few butthurt europeons and chinese bots in here.
