Has anyone played a Motorcity Hellbaby. I was curious as to what you think of it.

Hell Baby Description:
Supernatural power with ultra thick tight lows, snarling vocal mids, and a truly gorgeous, airy top-end are the Hell Baby’s forte. Power need not be sacrificed for clarity and pronunciation. Wound by hand with a custom sized Plain Enamel coil wire to 17.6k DC resistance powered under the axis with an Alnico magnets, chords ring throughout with clarity rich in complex overtones and heavy detail. The mids are very complex and vocal with tremendous presence and crisp harmonic character; releasing custom tone that you can feel in your bones.

A super rich harmonic structure coupled with clarity, detailed intensity while retaining a very organic uncompressed character. The Hell Baby will keep you up night after night with intoxicating tone, spitting fire and screaming for more.

Hey, Matt-

You should talk to Mike at Guitar Rez, he has one in his LPC. Last I heard he was digging that pickup a lot more than the Aldrich.

Yeah. I've talked to him about it. I'm going to check it out next time I go up to Austin - just looking for any other opinions.

He doesn't like the Aldrich at all actually. I had called him to talk about the reasons he dislikes it since alot of people seem to love it. From what he is saying, it sounds like the MC is the way to go. I'm not sure if I'd be more into the Solution or the Hellbaby.

I've got a Hell-baby in a one-piece mahogany Hamer standard (explorer shape). It's pretty much the way Wade describes it in the description you quoted.

I also have a Solution in a mahogany ESP horizon.

So... to me the Hell-baby has a lot more character than the Solution. It has a beautifully detailed bottom end (like the current chick in mrp5150s avatar) that is thick and tight but not as tight as the Solution. The mids in the Hell-baby are more aggressive and the highs are indeed "airy"... (no ice-pick in any of Wade's stuff) it's hard to describe but that also translates to an absolutely beautiful bell-like clean tone as well. The Solution is more aggressive in that the crunch is harder-edged and the bottom end is SURGICALLY tight! The Solution is a cool pickup too (and more "metal") but I prefer the voicing and harmonic detail in the Hell-baby.

The Hell-baby has been spot-welded into the Hamer so that it can never be removed. Hope that helps.

Oh, and anything that Wade makes rocks!!  You have to try a 2nd degree black-belt sometime.

Cool. Thanks man. I'd be putting the Hell Baby in an all mahogany PRS standard 22. I have EMG 81/85 in there now. I may also buy another Horizon - that's the guitar I think I'd want the Solution in. I plan to drop tune that guitar so I want something that will keep the low-end tight, but be more organic sounding than the EMG.

Yeah, he hates the Aldrich. I actuall have his Aldrich right now but have not put it in a guitar yet. I am going to try it out and then sell it for him when I get home from tour.

As far as the Hell Baby or Solution thing goes, if you are replacing an 81 or 85 I would go with the Solution personally. I think the Hellbaby would be a pretty major difference...unless that is what you are going for. :D

Yeah. I'm going for something different with this guitar. The solution will be for the Horizon if I get it.
