I found two NOS HellBaby Bridge models recently. Seller says he's never actually used them. Technically you can't kill me because they aren't a set. :D

Can someone describe the hellbabys to me please?

Ok... I’d kill for a Hellbaby bridge!

Curiosity: do these pickups behave cool or are designed for both LPs and superstrats, or there are specific models that behave better in one out of the two? Like, you know, WCR/JWP which are mainly LP pickups.

I’ve not tried the Hellbaby’s, but for what it’s worth, I’ve tried many of the other Motor City models in various types of guitars (Les Paul, SG, super Strat, Jackson, PRS) and have had WCR/JWP’s in almost everything but a Les Paul style guitar and much prefer the WCR’s to any of the Motor City’s I’ve tried

I don’t think the WCR/JWP’s necerassily have to be in Les Paul’s. They’ve sounded great in everything I’ve trie so far and I’ve had em in a pretty diverse range of guitar whether it be my Nik Huber Dolphin (Mahogany/maple top), Parker Nitefly, all maple Carvin DC, all Koa Carvin DC, and all Rosewood custom guitar. Great pickups!

Right when the MCP gas was striking...

What were the better points for WCRs?

Well firstly, the WCR neck pickups I’ve had, especially the Dark Burst and Godwood (they’re basically the same neck pickup, just .2 diffeeence in DC resistance) just have a blend of being liquidy/fluid yet also very focused and articulate that I didn’t feel any of the Motor city pickups could match and the cleans on them were also more lush and detailed

The bridge pickup I’m most into by WCR is the Iron Man. I found it to have more warmth, complexity and growl than any other highout passive I’ve tried (except the Dunable Big Foot), yet it’s also very tight, articulate and feels great to play. It has some of that sizzle and tightness you’d expect from a ceramic, but more warmth and complexity than I’ve heard with other ceramics. Admittedly, the only higher output motor city’s I’ve had were the Angel Dust and Afwayu (I’m more experienced with their lower output stuff), but I think the Iron Man is a way better pickup than those. If you like the Angel Dust, I’d recommend the WCR Fillmore/Murkat (same pickup). It’s like a better version of what the Angle Dust was going for imo. It has that same vocal upper mid quality, but just better. I only sold my Murkat and Fillmore’s because I preferred my Dunable Big Foot (killer pickup too)

But anyway, that’s just my opinion. My favorite high output pickups I’ve tried have been the WCR’s mentioned above and the Dunable Big Foot. For everything but metal the Tone Specific’s are by far my favorites

Luckily shipping from the US to Europe would be so pricey that thinking about ourchasing one would mean insanity, or else my bank account might be in troubles.
Still not sure why there's such an awful lof of MCPs not listed in the site that actually are on sale..

I had the hell baby bridge in one of my guitars for a while. It’s got the heat and sustain of a hot pickup. Despite being hot, it’s not going to paint you into a corner with an overly aggressive & compressed tone. Don’t get me wrong, there is some compression, it’s just not over the top. It also has a cleaner and more neutral character to it with good clarity under gain. It has a bit of roundness/fatness to the notes as well, but it’s still plenty tight for fast riffing.

Sounds like it would of been the perfect replacement for one of my Les Pauls that is currently loaded with an EMG81/60 Set.

I recently grabbed a 2nd degree BB from a fellow member here. I installed it in my LP Classic and whew!!!!

I think my problem is i've been using EMG 81's for so Long (Close to 27 Years) that i'm used to that Fast Tracking they do. I also got used to the tone & reaction of the Low End.

I'll echo other responses here and say that I didn't really receive any notice about shipping or anything. I just checked my mail and an underwound afwayu magically appeared in my mailbox :D
On that note, I have used a metric ton of pickups, and the afwayu just pairs perfectly with my mesa mk3 and peters fsm. It has this killer grind to the mids that makes every riff way more ballsy. Definitely one of my favorite pickups I've ever used.

I haven’t been into EMG’s in years, but I’ll admit that trying to find a passive that can match their combination of tightness, power, & low end response can leave one feeling a bit unfulfilled.

Just got a pair of afwayu s in the mail last Friday. I went in thinking about the 7 weeks lead time but mine turned out to be more like 15 weeks. Not a big deal, wasnt in a rush, when I inquired on status, it took a couple days but Wade sent me a note indicating he was experiencing some delays so communication was there when it needed to be. Pickups are splendid, took a little longer than expected but overall I got what I paid for and am happy.

This is not meant to be a snarky dick post so bear with me....

Why does he take that long for a set of pickups? Is he a 1 man shop and clearly doing everything himself? Is it a side gig/hobby and he can only has so much time to make them? I'm genuinely interested because it just seems like a crazy long wait for a set of pickups. Again, not trying to be a dick but genuinely interested.

I have no experience with Wade personally, but it's a one man show. He probably could take another guy on, but as a small business it is not as easy as it sounds.

You have to worry about their quality of work/handling shipments. Having an employee brings on a big sets of cost. Unemployment/workers comp, etc. All sorts of stuff like that. Then most would require a certain amount of hours, which isn't always easy. If he were to take a second man on he may be waiting for orders to come in, and paying for a guy to not be operating at 100%.

A lot of stuff to consider. Personally I stay a one man operation because of some of those reasons.

I am not trying to speak for him or anyone in that case, but a lot of people don't think of a lot of those costs.

Also quality and consistency of work on a specialized product is a lot more of a concern for someone in that industry. If you sell t-shirts is one thing, but not so much high end custom quality oriented items. I doubt any respectable craftsman would put on a new guy on the quality associated items, as it would moreso be somebody to do the shipping and receiving and business end.

I am a casual business guy and it's on the side for enjoyment and money to spend on gear. That is not the case for everyone. No headaches for me.

I've had that pickup in my Les Paul Classic for a few years and that pickup kills!! I absolutely love that pickup. Great for everything I use it for.

Wade is one guy making all the pickups himself and as far as I know it's his day job. I've seen people get stuff in just a couple weeks, mine usually come in about 8; I don't doubt the 15 week wait but that's definitely the longest I've ever heard anybody say they waited. I'm on week 8 now for my current order. I'm not in a hurry and I know when I order it's going to be a little while but worth the wait. Watching for them to come up on Reverb, eBay or forum classifieds is often quicker than ordering new, but there isn't always identification on used pickups to be able to tell what model they are for sure.
