2nd degree black belt is a hotter BB.
A2 squish and mid emphasis, A5 relatively more scooped more lows and highs more punch.
Black Iron or blister bucker are A2 and more like a duncan custom custom fat mids, squish and hotter output.

I like the thought of more mids - I wish I knew someone with a 2BB A2.

me experience with regular 2nd degree black belts

piano like bass notes

very tight and articulate

a little boomy

a little stiff for my style of play

How would the black iron or angel dust compare to the Detroiter or other models of their's? Which is the most raw, aggressive, or angry sounding?

For a les Paul unless you have a prob with it being real bright try The regular 2nd degrees. I dig them.
Buy used they pop up all the time. If it doesn't work out you can sell for what you paid. Then you can judge if you want an AQ version or if you need something hotter.

And doing a magnet swap takes about 5 minutes.

Get the A5 version, and order a $3 A2 magnet from Stew Mac, to swap in there, too. Atleast that would give you a good idea of what it sounds like with each mag.

Finally heard back from Wade.
He seems to think the Afwayu is my pickup.

Hope he's right... one's on its way

Cantrell used those and they sound great. But everything he uses is implemented well.

Had the Afwayu a few weeks ago but only got the completed guitar back on Wed.
What a fantastic pickup !!!!
Nothing like a JB in my opinion, much sweeter and the split mode is the ideal single coil.
I'm so in love with this I'm going to order 2 more.

I didn't find Wade very easy to deal with ( really poor comms ) and the pickup arrived wrapped in paper with no screws or springs ( he said they're cheap enough to buy ! ) but the pickup itself is beautifully made and sounds like heaven so I won't let my experience put me off buying another.
