I worked for a human rights organization in Gaza for years. I had to leave my home country to pursue my graduate studies in the United States of America as that was a dream coming true. However, I had no choice but to seek asylum in Quebec after I finished my MA in 2019, with my husband and two of my children. Unfortunately, one my other daughter, Jana (13 years old), remained stuck in Gaza since Israel refused her departure (please check out the update added below in the updates section concerning the passing of Jana). Jana is disabled and needs advanced health care. I have been fighting for her since I left Gaza. Not only Jana, I still have in Gaza several members of my own family, including my only sister, her husband and their two young children (7 & 8 years old). Since October 7, I have prayed every day for my loved ones to survive Israel's incessant attacks, as well as the lack of food, water, and medication.
What I can do in the meantime is mobilize everything I can to get them out of Gaza when the time allows. After years of determination and hardwork with the Canadian government, my daughter was eventually accepted as a refugee in Canada although she is still in Gaza. However, she will leave Gaza as soon as it is safe for her to leave.
After strong mobilization and pressure, the Canadian government agreed on December 21, to expand the concept of family reunification (which was limited to spouses and children) to grandparents, brothers and sisters. I will, therefore, take the necessary steps, when a ceasefire is announced, to bring in not only my daughter, but also my sister, her husband and their two children.

Throughout a short time, I was able to focus all my energy on learning the French language and finding a job in Quebec. The family income is still insufficient to allow me to support my family of 4 (my husband, myself and 2 children) here in Canada on the one hand and to bring my sister's family on the other hand. It should be noted that I had to make a hard choice on deciding to bring my sister and her family only although I have my father and other siblings in Gaza. It is a "no-choice" decision that I was forced to take in light of the high expenses of traveling, hoping that I will be able to bring other family members later on.
We appeal for your solidarity! We know that times are difficult and dark and that the needs are many. However, any donation can help my sister's family find safety and restart their lives.
All funds collected will be paid directly towards the travel expenses of my sister and her family all the way from Gaza to Canada. Other expenses of accomodation in Egypt, Canadian visa fees, and other basic needs are on me. Funds to cross to Egypt in addition to the plane tickets to Quebec are estimated at US$8,000 per person. So, that will be US$32,000 in total.
It is worth noting that the Canadian government will offer no financial aid or support for Palestinian families that will arrive in Canada. This means I will be the one taking care of all financials related to my sister and her family for a full year.
