IF they actually make this and IF it sounds even close to the originals, I'd be in line to buy one along with half the planet. Not gonna hold my breath, though. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill.

with the introduction of SMD components to the electronics world ( whenever that happened ) a lot of old school rack gear can fit into a pedal format now
I have no specifics on this particular one but it gets done all the time now

I'm already using a pretty pricey Spaceman Meridian for doubling plus if I wanted to use it, it can do chorus, vibrato, rotating speaker, and flanging effects. Not sure this unit would be able to best it and even if that's the case, I don't need a flanger and that box is pretty good. How good is the doubling of the original? Seems like a lot of older stuff is "legendary" because the number of options at the time wasn't nearly as large as it is today.

The problem with this unit is it used the Reticon BBDs, so a reissue will never be 1-1. It will have to be redesigned with a 3207 or MN3007, like all the other late 70s designs, like EHX.

The Meridian already uses the 3007 so it looks like I can not worry about MXR's reissue being much different/better, LOL.

It makes for an expensive doubler, but it's 100% analog, which is what I wanted. The goofy modulation stuff is useless to me but it has a very lush chorus. The doubler is good but for whatever reason doesn't respond correctly to very light pick attacks so I shut it off for ballads. It does add a nice fatness to chordal work and lead tones without sounding like an "effect". I managed to get mine under $300....the only one listed on reverb right now is over $400.

Nothing I've found so far sounds as good as the old Reticon BBDs, specifically the SAD1024, but the SAD512 does it, too. Someone with more technical expertise can probably explain this better, but I think it has to do with the clock or rather inconsistencies with the clock. They seem to have a slightly irregular asymmetric wave where the Panasonics and others have a smoother sine or triangular wave. This seems to introduce some additional phase artifacts into the audio. The net result is that the cycle sounds like a figure-8 instead of just up and down. Especially with flangers, this sounds like it's going through zero when it's really not. I don't believe this related to the make/model because everything I have with a Reticon chip does this, whether it's MXR, DOD, or Ross, and nothing with any other chip does it. Digital recreations get the sound, but they don't get the wave right, and to me, this is the biggest tell.
