MXR Smart Gate

I tried my MXR Smart Gate in my amp loop and turned it on and it does not seem to do anything. I still hear a bit of hum. Should I put it back in the front of my amp?

It sounds more like a hum than a hiss

I haven't tried one in the loop in a long time but I remember preferring it in front.

Hum is usually related to more fundamental problem vs hiss. If you move the smart gate in front, does it solve the problem?
