No he's playing a sNax ...

Fryette PS seems to be the consensus, I've owned one but didn't use it as an attenuator, does anyone have experience with Aracom products though? Those are supposed to be on the higher end as well in regards to build quality and functionality.

No attenuator will be able to tame something substantially without affecting tone, if something is way too loud instead of just a bit too loud the attenuators won´t cut it, but the best I´ve heard is the Rivera Rockcrusher.

When dealing with non-master amps I´ve actually had the best low-volume results by loading them down and running them through another poweramp that sounds good without being cranked, sort of what Van Halen did from the mid 80s and onward. Maybe not something for the purists, though.

loading the signal down and slaving with a separate power amp is exactly what the Fryette powerstation does, referred to as an attenuator but actually has its own tube poweramp and is more a slaving/reamping solution with controls to compensate with high and lowend, depth and such. Works fantastic.

Send it to Cameron and get holes drilled in it and a pound of blob glued to it's insides.

+1 for

To the OP, nice score - now get to playin' like EJ mmmm'kay?

Isn't anyone even a little curious as to how one stumbles across a guitar heroes amp, or better yet, buys it?!? Story please.

Eric and I have been friends for 20 years. He's sold me some gear along the way...68 Strat, 57 Stat, and this Plexi. He's a great friend!

Let Eric borrow your IIC+.

But what's the history of that Marshall? Do you know if he recorded with it? If so which albums? Tours?

Sweet acquisition. Congrats!

Hands down, the Badcat Unleash. Nice size and great features. Effects loop and two footswitchable volumes for lead boost. Sounds perfect with my 2204.

I had a Fryette Power Station and dumped it for the Unleash. Did not like the sound of it, and that thing was way huge and heavy. Unleash sounds infinitely better...

Um really??

Yes I am curious about this too.

I agree with the rest on the Fryette Power Station I have one and have tried various attenuation devices. I did the load and slaving method for a while but hands down the Power Station rules the weight of the unit shouldn't be an issue because the trade off is a valued reward in tone, I did keep my unleash V 1 to use as a wet power amp for a Dry/Wet set up it does the job for that pretty well.

Haven't tried the Fryette but I have the Unleash and I think it's the tits. Sounds great, tons of features, and I love the loop to run delays and reverbs.

I was at Strait today and they said EJ has a '69 metal panel he's getting rid of. I'm not a metal panel fan, but if anyone is interested and can act professional they should call them.

Highs/mids had a bit of an altered sound I couldn't get rid of using the PS knobs/switches. There was just something different going on there when flipping back forth between bypass and engage. With the Unleash, the key was keeping the trim adjusted pretty low. Get it to where the light reacts to pick attack. I don't hear the same difference when going between engaged and bypass.

Additionally, the size/weight of the PS was a hinderance. If you're just using at home, might not be an issue? It's wide and very heavy. Was like bringing a 2nd full sized amp to gigs. Had to keep it on top of the head (Unleash fits behind the head on top of cabinet). I'm a minimalist as far as the amount of gear I want to bring to gigs. Got to the point where I questioned whether I should just bring one smaller wattage head rather then bringing a 2nd amp to use my Marshall. The Unleash is small/light and fits in my gig bag. They both have nice effects loops. The 2nd master on the Unleash to boost my solos on the one channel Marshall was the icing.

This is not argument fuel, just my experience and opinion on my results. Try them both and use what you prefer...

I got something from Cameron that I'm using with my 100% stock 1967 plexi. Amp has NO mods. Can be used at any volume. I happen to be using it at bedroom volumes.

Regarding attenuators/load boxes, here is a good thread about it but things have changed in the year or so since it began.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=166679&hilit=load+box

It was more in the context of reamping/recording but lots of good info. The biggest takeaway for me is that the load seems to be the critical factor in really capturing the tone/feel of the amp no matter what you do. Resistive loads sound/feel different than reactive loads and even different reactive loads will sound different.
