I'm pretty stupid. Can you explain what advantages this unit has as a power amp?
Or why that was a selling feature to you?

Skye covered it above quite well! I took a bit of a gamble on the attenuator side as it’s hard to tell from videos how quiet something can get, but it’s really fucking impressive how that thing can bring the volume down to whisper levels and still feel like you’re playing out of a tube amp and without messing with the sound of the amp at all. It’s like the best master volume you can ever add to an amp, especially a non-master volume amp.

Like Skye said about using a load box/power amp, I did that all of once with one of my Class D amps and it just wasn’t the same experience, they’re fine for jamming in the living room or maybe some genres of lighter music/clean tones, but for playing in a metal band they’re shit until you drop $1500 on nearly 2000watts of class D power.

Too bad it doesn’t have a reactive load and IR loader with headphone out.
You likely are already aware of this , but the PLIR does that without the power amp.

Fryette has great stuff. I just recently bought a GPDI/IR and a PS100. The GPDI/IR makes me wish my pittbull had a gain 2 knob.

I think I might try to load some IRs that match my cabs and see how close they are.

I was able to hear and feel a lot of different sag, class a distortion, and saturation that I never would have without the PS100 and pittbull combination. My tinnitus is already rough and I don't need to make it worse.

Making small amps sound huge is also a lot of fun with the PS100

Congrats!

They really are great pieces of kit. I had a PS 100 first, after I got my 72 Marshall but I didn't care for the tone 'squish' it did. This was 7 years ago, maybe the 100 is different now. I did though try the PS2a recently, and it does a great job with my 68 (72 is now modded). No strange 'squish' to the tone like the 100 did a while back.

My PS1 is a mandatory accessory to my 72 SL. I can enjoy all that glorious power tube gain without killing everything in the house.

I can't say enough good about the power station, it's handily one of the best pieces of gear I've owned. I didn't really have using it as a power amp in mind when I got it, but it's probably seen the most use for that purpose so far.

I've been using this setup into the ps more than my amps lately.
