Mesa Mark III Green Stripe DRG

I've been culling thru some of these as of late and ran across this particularly clean and mean sounding example. I'll let the pics and clip do the talking. Sounds better than some of the other Green DRG IIIs I've had. It was built right at the end of the run before the switch to the MKIVA. Just swapped out some new filter caps and all new glass. Really mean little SOB.

Ahh nice man. So this is the one we've been hearing about. Nice score too, its super clean. Can I see the back of the one below it as well?

Naw... this is one of 2 Greens I have. The one below it in the pic is the one I’m going to ++ mod. It’s a Blue Stripe DRG. I’ll get a back pic. They all really kick arse.

Get Mike to do a pentode/triode switch on the amp you are ++ing. This way you will have the option to sound like a green stripes power section as well as the regular triode power section of all of the other stripes.

Funny you mention that... I wanted him to add the T/P switch but he really advised against it because it said it often causes oscillations at high gain and high volumes... which is mainly what I'd use it for. He was strongly against it. If I want, I'll do it myself... just looks like 1 resistor between the pins of the outside pair of power tubes wired to a SPST switch. I've seen it done before, so I had it on my list. Looks like I'll be doing the "++" mod and R2 volume. I sent him my best Blue... it's a beast as-is. After going thru several, I've found they are not all created equal.

Nice Brotha!!!

Sounds like that thing has oodles of gain and then some more gain!

I need I keep saying it, but I really do need to push some Mesa variant to the top of my want list.

It very well could've been this as well. If I didn't have a few others I'da been more pushy. He's a nice guy so... I do have a feeling there's only so much you can pack in to these small boxes... but after digging in to a few of them... they really are well built and stand the test of time.

YES! You need a Mark series amp in your life. It is completely everything you dig about your Savage. Tight, tight, tight and tons of gain... I still had a few notches to push it too.

I do, I really do. Maybe a Mark or JP2c huh.
