So a couple weeks ago I bought a Vtm 120.
I must say it is hard to beat for the money !
It does the 80's thing really well !
Plenty of gain !
With all the dip switches , there are many different tones to be had.
The low side clean is really nice as well !
I will be trying different speakers soon .
I have 7 4x12 cabs , a 2x12 and a 1x12 .
All with different speakers.
I am also picking up a vtm 4x12 cab this weekend.
I will let you guys know how the amp responds !
I do find it to be a very touch sensitive amp!
It has lots of low end as well !
The point of buying it was to have a cheap decent tube head to pack around ( headshell needs to go ! )
For the record I have a Bogner Helios 100, and Extacy 101b, a modded Bassman, and a boss Kantana 100 head.
So I did not need another head !

had the 60. really great amps. still have the 4x12, it is killer. i heard the 120 at an ampfest and it was devastating when cranked...it might have cracked a few of my ribs lol.

congrats!!!!!!

Congrats

Have yet to find/play one. Always hear good things. Pics are required one you get the cab :D

I love VTM's. Bought and sold two but Im always tempted to buy a 3rd. Boosted in hangs with the more expensive amps easily. Those things are insanely loud and built like tanks. Congrats!

Thanks for the reply!
Oh and yes is it ever loud !
Literally can play with a drummer on 2 !
I would like to think I know tone a little bit ?
I really am blown away how good it sounds !
If anyone wants a great tube amp for a little bit of money !
Find a vtm 60 or 120 !
It can sound like crap and muddy if you do not know how to dial a nice tone !
I think that can be any amp though !

I think even not boosted it has lots of gain !
I thought about having it modded just to give a bit more sizzle !
The sickness never ends !
Doh !

The VTM 60 has been my main amp since 2004, and it loves getting blasted on the front end with an MXR GT-OD, Bion Boost, and MXR Super Badass OD. I've got vids on my youtube channel of my VTM with all three of these boosts/overdrives.

Congrats on the amp!

Honestly dont worry about getting it modded. Just hit it with a boost. Gower will do a Jose/Cali type mod if you wanted to send it to him. Other than cutting the bright cap if that I would leave it as is.

There is a certain way you set those dip switches and it will do the jose thing. Had one 20 years ago don't remember what the setting is. The amp is based off a jose from some 80`s rock dudes marshall

Thanks for all the responses!
I love the way it sounds for sure !
I have boosted it yet.
I have a few options.
I am not much of a boost guy personally though.
As far as nodding goes , it would only be to get a little extra sizzle.
I know a boost will do that.
I'm just having fun with it !

I had a 120 and it was my main amp for about 2-3 years. Sounded great and definitely had a ton of tones. Only downside was that the head shell weighed so damn much! These could be had for dirt cheap for years, total sleeper amp... now I see people asking for $800+ for them now on Craigslist/local classifieds

Yes they are too heavy !
I will build a new headshell for mine.
I paid 500.00 for mine.
I think that was fair .

Enjoy! I've always wanted an old peavey!

Great amps and built like tanks! I’ve had many over the years. The prices they are bringing right now are insane though. Those were $300 amps for decades! The original Peavey Butcher is fantastic as well

I do confess !
Other than the 5150, I had this attitude toward peavey amps of old sucking !
I would also not mind trying a classic 50, or 100 .
For the money the made in america peavey nowadays are a score !

Congrats. Cool JCM 800 clones. I had a 60 that I sent out for a Jose mod, sounded great. Anyone that can mod an 800 should be able to mod your 60.

Thanks !
I just might get it modded !
First I'm going to loose the tank of a headshell !
I will build a new 3/4 plywood on.

Brian Jay of Keel was the 80’s rock dude, it’s already a Jose.
