NAD - Wizard Content

So I scored this as a birthday gift to myself. I'm not entirely sure when it was made but I'm fairly sure it's an early one.









First impressions:

The good - this thing is pure rock and roll. No doubt about it. AC/DC tones for days. You can thrash hard chords on this amp and it still retains an amazing amount of note clarity.
Built unbelievably sturdy. High grade headshell, super thick steel chassis, heavy duty turret boards, Heavy duty buss wire throughout. All jacks are Switchcraft, pots are CTS.
The not so good:
It's stupid loud. I'm thinking a PPIMV might be in order here. An attenuator at least.
It's a very bright amp. The rhythm channel seems to be set up as a NMV Marshall type, and it's rather harsh on the ears. Some mods might settle it down.


Overall it's a killer amp and I'll get plenty of use out of it! Glad to be a part of the Wizard family.

you have arrived... it might take some getting used to if you have not been playing marshalls which are supposed to be bright. Enjoy it!

Yeah I've been playing and building amps on the darker end of the spectrum for a while now.

ouch.. if you play the wizard *only* for an extended period and go back to those dark amps it will freak you out!

Can anyone tell me the exact model and era of this amp? I'm guessing an early MC100?

These amps were exclusively voiced around Greenbacks for the longest time. They help tame the volume and high end considerably. Wizard cabs are very warm and round as well.

Some thing to consider. If you think the amp has the potential to be a keeper for you, you can send it back to Rick and he will update it for you for little or no cost other than shipping. He also has another voicing for the rhythm channel that is a little less bright (I think) that he might be able to do for you. He can also put in an effects loop (for a charge) and then you will have even more of a monster of an amp there.

+1 on Wizard cabinets being warmer. They are one of, if not the, best built cabinets out there. I bought one and put greenbacks in it and then stumbled on another at a great price and bought it too. Then I sold my Bogner 1x12 and I now have 2 Wizard 1x12s. Great stuff.

Never tried greenbacks with mine... I would imagine the volume would not be able to go past two without utter mutilation occurring. anyone try the g12h 30's?

Yes I have a cab (Mojave) with 25's on top and Heritage 30's on the bottom I like the blend of the two with my MCII

Yuck! Not much worse than those speakers for guitar.

Ran Gbs for years with mine. As long as you have a 412 no problem....212's are another story.......

thanks for the intel... I may pick up a greenback quad here locally. I'm running vintage 30's which I love but would be cool try a different flavor.

What kind of Orange caps are they using?

Right? Talk about giving Mercury a run for their money.

Most of the caps are 715p Spragues.

Cool man. That's a dynamic machine. I recommend a Rockcrusher attenuator if you can swing another $500 bux. They are pretty clear, and you won't need to mod your amp. It's the only way I know what my Trainwreck build sounds like..
