Jack the presence to near all the way up and turn the treble to near off. Takes the blanket off the amp and really opens it up gain wise. Blue channel boosted is the only way to go.

HNAD. It’s a staple amp that blows an SLO out of the water. One of the best amps to play as a lead guitarist. At times I miss mine for only that purpose.

Do you find the 104BV superior to the 101B? I've read several comparisons and while they all felt that the 104 is a fantastic amp, a few seemed to think that there was a certain "feel" or "magic" missing by comparison to the 101B...thoughts?

I haven't compared them at the same time but I don't feel the 104BV is lacking in magic. It does have three key features - the extra channel, 80s mode on red, and the option to run dual blue - that make it a keeper for me when the 101B wasn't.

For me too, if the tone stack is post gain stage (typical Marshall variation). I find with some boogies it's the opposite. Set treble to where the saturation is right and then tame the top end or "plink", if needed, by lowering the Presence. Presence high is a must for the XTC, if using Hum's, even more so in a Gibson.
